I bought 'what's goin on' a couple of motnhs ago and I've really enjoyed it. It was way better than I expected and has become one of my favorite albums. My question is: what album (of him) should i buy next. There's an enormeous amount of Cd's out there...so tell me, what's next on my shopping list?

Let's Get It On (Deluxe Edition), then I Want You (Deluxe Edition), then Here, My Dear.

There's a boxset called 'The Master 1961-1984', u should check that out cuz it'll have all Marvin's greatest hits on there and also rarities like a duet on 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine' with Gladys Knight and his version of the 'Star Spangled Banner'.

You gotta get 'Let's Get It On',which is my favorite Marvin Gaye album.It's now a 2-CD Deluxe Edition,with a ton of bonus tracks,outtakes,rarities,etc.An absolute must-have!

Well, there's really aren't that many "true" Marvin Gaye albums. Pre-"What's Goin' On" material is just pretty much sheer Motown-entertainment. It's good but not the reason why most fans listen to his music.

The "real" albums (all definitely worth the purchase) are -

What's Goin' On
Let's Get It On
I Want You
Here, My Dear
Midnight Love

with the addition of "In Our Lifetime" which was an album the record company rush released half-finished without Marvin's own consent.

There was also a film soundtrack of mostly instrumental material called "Trouble Man" (which aside from its classic title cut isn't a necessity to have).

He has several live albums and an admittably excellent ballads album, released posthumously, called "Vulnerable". Which is perhaps my own personal favourite. A few other posthumous releases like "Dream Of A Lifetime" containing unreleased (but excellent) material are worth getting once you get the others.

"What's going on" Could very well be my favorite album of all time.
