The Ultimate Janet Fan?

Ran across this article on the internet. I would love to have HALF of the stuff this guy's got... Velveteers take note.

Belle resident crafts personal shrine to that famous malfunctioning-wardrobe singer

By Rusty Marks
Staff writer

Michael Burris has something most guys don’t — an entire attic plastered with photos of pop star Janet Jackson. “She’s flawlessly hot,” says the 25-year-old Jackson fan.

In Burris’ home in Belle, there’s a Janet Jackson poster in the living room, a Janet Jackson poster in the kitchen and — naturally — more than one picture of Janet Jackson in the bedroom.

But it’s the attic where Burris’ passion for the singer really plays itself out. Practically every square inch of wall and ceiling space is covered with posters and photographs of the pop singer. At last count, Burris had 6,261 pictures of Jackson on display, along with CDs, vinyl record albums, T-shirts and other memorabilia.

“You might call it an obsession, I guess, but it’s a healthy obsession,” Burris said.

There isn’t much about Jackson that Burris doesn’t know. “She’ll be 39 in May,” he said. “Her birthday is 11 days after mine.”

Burris’ fascination with Jackson began in 1993, when he came upon a photo of the star in a magazine. “There was just something about that picture,” he said. “All of a sudden, I was hooked.”

Burris thumbs through magazines looking for photos of Jackson. Friends

bring Burris Janet Jackson pictures when they find them. He cruises the Internet looking for photos of his idol.

“EBay has been a big help,” he said. “When I go out of town on vacation, I always go to the secondhand music stores. That’s where you find the good stuff.”

Burris has never met Jackson face-to-face, though he has had front-row seats at her concerts. At a show in Columbus, Ohio, he got to toss a stuffed toy with a note wrapped around it up on stage. “That’s the closest we’ve been,” he said.

Burris, who works at Chili’s restaurant at Town Center mall while studying to become a massage therapist, concedes his Janet Jackson passion may look a little odd. But he maintains a sense of humor about his interest, insisting he has no intentions of stalking the singer. “There are no voices saying, ‘Get Janet,’” he joked. “Not yet.

“My mom thinks I’m cuckoo,” he added. “I tell her I could be hooked on crack, out buying crack on the street, or I could be cutting pictures out of People magazine. That usually calms her down.”

Naturally, Burris has his thoughts on Janet’s now-infamous breast-baring incident at the Super Bowl, the “wardrobe malfunction” heard round the world.

“I think it was overblown, as far as the reaction,” he said. “It was pushing the limits of what you can and can’t see [on TV].”

Burris understands not wanting small children to see bare breasts on network television. In theory, he agrees.

“But personally,” he said, flashing an impish grin, “I enjoyed it.”

I think so.. To have devoted so much time on something just to promote your art?
I think it's crazy. And not just her... any singer or musician!

hehe Yeah I figured worship

Are you at all inclined to collect videoclips of her? That VH1 Driven had some rare (to me) clips! Like JJ walking into the A&M studio to record "Don't Stand Another Chance" and even things like her singing on Good Times.

Todd Bridges: Just sing to this cassette! smile

So far I just collect her music, but you never know.

I would like them to release a compilation of her rare clips, but that likely won't be happening any time soon.

This is an example when an obsession becomes unhealthy. There's no artist i would do that for.

Do you understand why someone might collect recordings of a recording artist though? Pics are just too weird?

If it's recordings, fine. But even still some die hard fans would go out and buy an LP of the same songs they may have on other recordings just for the pcture.

And when the ceiling is covered in pictures then the obsession gets outta hand.

If i did that for any artist i would fear of getting sick of them pretty quickly

Yeah I guess I agree with you! There was this DJ I met like 3 years back who was interviewed for his Madonna picture collection. I wanted to talk to him about the Music album/remixes, and he was like "I'm more into how she changes her look" confused

Besides that, can a girl really like a man when they have a dedication to another woman named Janet Miss Jackson if you're nasty?

Hell even a guy would have issues with that! Even if you like JJ - can you imagine "going back to his for a coffee"? Eeek!

Exactly what I was thinking. What else does he have? lol

How could he be the "ultimate Janet fan" when he mentioned nothing of her music, how she's inspired his life, things like that. Seems like he just likes the pictures.
'Cause your friends don't dance, and if they don't dance... well, they're no friends of mine.

He's definitely in the diehard category, but there's several types of fans.

There's those who collect recordings.

Those who collect pictures / make scrapbooks, etc.

Those who do a little of both.

Those who just get the studio albums, a few singles and that's it.

Those who are emotionally attached to Janet, but may not have her all of her items, but will try to see her at a show or dance to her hard at a club.

Etc. Etc. Etc.

I wouldn't call this guy "the ultimate Janet fan" (that's hard to classify), but he's a diehard. Anybody who can keep all those pictures in their attic got to be feelin' something.
