List, lists, and MORE LISTS!

Some of us here like lists. We like to compile them, to dispute them, to agree with them, whatever. I found this site which has endless lists such as Best Rock Guitarist, Best Frontman, Best Bass Player, Best Drummer, etc. all compiled by whoever voted online.

It's pretty interesting, and it's good to see a lot of my favorites mentioned a lot. (Prince is represented quite a bit as well)

Good site.

Keep in mind that their lists are "popularity contests" based on votes from the general public making them susceptible to "ballet box stuffing" and other weirdness.

(Example - Stairway To Heaven #1 in the 100 Greatest Guitar Solos list) disbelief

Because many lists include up to 200 entries, they are useful as a memory jog source.

Their "Music Info" section is cool.

They even have a Jokes section which includes a Quotes sub-section.

A few gems from the Zappa Quotes area:
Jazz is not dead...it just smells funny.

A mind is like a parachute. It doesnt work if it's not open.

There will never be a nuclear war; there's too much real estate involved.

Most people wouldn't know good music if it came up and bit them in the ass.

Without deviation from the norm, 'progress' is not possible.

Yeah, I know. And you know me, I am a huge Zeppelin fan, but even I don't think Stairway is the best guitar solo. shrug Also, Maggot Brain should have been much higher IMO. I just love reading lists for some reason.

Yeah well, even though the solo to "Stairway" is o.k., definately not Page's best solo, "Since I've Been Loving You" is much better to me. The solo to "Stairway" holds so much clout because of the song "Stairway" in general. But if that's the case, then a song like "Freebird" which is second to "Stairway" in terms of receiving the most requests, it's solo, or solos, should be ranked even higher. They're much better solos than "Stairway" is, to me. And please, don't even get me started on Hazel's "Maggot Brain". There are several reasons why that solo has never received the credit it deserves.

Not true. It might have popped up on a few Madonna threads in the past. I make it no secret that I'm not a fan, but that Kylie thread is the first EVER that I've participated in. And I also never said I hated her did I?

That's a pet peeve of mine. Eddie Murphy wore a guitar in his "I Was a King" video. Teena Marie did it in her "Lover Girl" video. Bono in "With or Without You." (Does he actually play guitar?) Yeah, it makes for a cool ass accessory, but if you can’t play worth a lick, strap some bling on instead.
