The Beach Boys (a few really superb albums - the best of which is Pet Sounds - and some dazzling singles and melodies are marred by a zillion interchangeable songs about surfing; too bad Brian Wilson had to go fry his brain while recording the followup to Pet Sounds)

This is a mix of artistic overratedness and "too-popular-for-what-they-are" overratedness.

R Kelly - people talk about him like he's this veteran classic artist, but I'd never heard of him before 1994 - I may be only 22 but I can't stand it when young people think of something that's just 5-10 years old as an "oldie". His ballads are vile piles of steaming turds.
