Court and Spark would be a great intro to Joni's music. It has a nice pop appeal to it but also has touches of of jazz flavorings.Songs like Same Situation and Down To You will leave you pretty speechless.
Blue is Joni's most confessional, bare bones album that features A Case Of You,a song Prince has always enjoyed covering. It's sparse;just Joni with guitar and piano and the songs are lovely and haunting.Another classic. Hejira finds Joni spreading her musical wings to breathtaking heights with the help from the master bass player Jaco Pastorious. His playing and her vocals meld together beautifully making this another must have in your collection. The Hissing of Summer Lawns is Joni at the height of her musical powers. It's a colorful and complex and sophisticated masterpiece. My favorite album...ever. I would start with these, then get the ones in between, before and after

I remember the first time I bought Hissing of Summer Lawns, I also picked up Tool's Aenema that same day. Both albums blew me away tho theyre totally different.

The way the songs flow into one another is amazing. Then Blue. Then Hissing..... Then Herija. Then probably Turbulent Indigo. My advice would be to simply enjoy her music --------------------------------------------------

'Court & Spark' hasn't quite clicked with me yet. (Although 'Help Me' is wonderful...) Maybe I need to re-listen.....? (Maybe I'm just weird.....?) If you're completely new to her music, try her 'Hits' album, as it has most of her old favourites on it. Court & Spark is the only JM album I have and it sounds so great, so I would definitely recommend that u get that one first before any of albums. Court & Spark has to be her most definitive albums. Check me out and add me on:

I highly recommend you begin with Court and Spark. That album alone elevated Joni to legendary status in my eyes. I have listened to Blue, and while many regard it as her definitive work, it does not resonate with me the way Court and Spark does.

co-sign court and spark is an excellent album to start with, blue would be next And what Gooey said... Co-Sign! After that explore the others. VERY good suggestions above. Personally I like Hejira.. Coyote...sigh...such a great song...but then she's hit a different pace by this time...after the folksy earlier stuff. One thing I like about her is that you can tune in at any point in her music and hear something special. She also takes you there, you know? Or "Misses" that's an essential companion of favorites that were not released. In fact Hits and Misses is another good starting point...IMO. Christian Zombie Vampires

don't download, buy the albums.
Court and Spark is great, do Blue next, listen to Travelogue and buy the albums where the original songs are on.
