Induldge me ... is rock dead???

Johnny Ramone died yesterday. Two years ago, I wrote a tribute to Joey Ramone (he died of cancer -- not due to drugs). Last year I wrote a tribute to Dee Dee Ramone. There was only one original Ramone left. His name was Johnny. He died of prostate cancer yesterday. Of course I wrote a tribute to him. Without the Ramones, Prince wouldn't have ever had the power he did to change the musical scene. I'm not linking to my Prince update, for a few days. I'm linking to my Johnny Ramone tribute. That tribute links to what I wrote about Joey and Dee Dee. This is REALLY sad for me. Imagine if Prince died and then Wendy and Lisa died along with him.

This fucking hurts. Check out my updates and send me an email. I could use a few online friends.

Luv & Peace,
Alex

There has to be some Ramones fans here. If not, there has to be at least a few people aware of the impact thet Ramones MADE on music. And that it pushed Prince's career in a direction it may never have gone in!

I sincerely hope not! But, having said that, many people consider The Darkness to be rock and if they are, then it really is dead, cause these guys suck fully and completely!!

They have so many great CDs-
The Ramones
Rocket to Russia
Leave Home
Road to Ruin
It's Alive
End of the Century
Rock 'N' Roll High School
Subterranean Jungle
Too Tough to Die

It's hard for me too pick one and say that that is the one you need to hear. A lot of the Greatest Hits collections are horrible. The best thing to get is 'Hey! Ho! Let's Go: The Anthology' It has 58 songs, so it really leaves nothing out.

Anxiety

a couple of weekends ago, i took a trip to new york city and went to a dance club night at the roxy called (pardon my french) "Motherfucker". the music was all rock'n'roll, from the '60s through the grunge era of the '90s. it's been a long time since i've had so much fun dancing, because you don't often get a chance to go on a dance floor and shake yer butt to stuff like patti smith, nirvana, the cure, bauhaus, pulp, bowie, and YES, the ramones (we got down to "rock'n'roll high school"). heck, they even threw some prince in the mix.

the craziest thing was, the place was packed. i'd say there were upwards to a thousand people crammed into that club, all having a great time. people still love rock music, and it brings an amazingly diverse group of people together.

it's a weird time for music right now - don't believe what the media and the charts tell you is the dominant force in music...it's not necessarily true. and even if it were true, so what.

it sucks that most of the ramones are gone. but what they left behind isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

I've been on a Ramones kick this entire year and saw the new movie about them a couple weeks ago and was just playing Road To Ruin on the day Johnny died.

My band challenges the idea of Rock Is Dead (the leader has these words rhinestoned on the back of his jacket) and offers an alternative -- punk rock played by a full orchestra on classical instruments, a sort of deconstruction of musical genres. We even did a show called "Death to Electric Guitars".

We play a totally rocking version of "We're a Happy Family" (with violin and flute embellishment)...

Culture will always change and hopefully there will always be something new and exciting going on. But the RAMONES are the RAMONES and no one can ever change that. Their music lives on.

RAMONES!!!! We love you!!!!rose

The question of Rock being dead is brought up and has been brought up since there was rock.
Punk Rock is another story and the Ramones were one of the real bands. I've seen them a couple of times and they were great. I think the last time they opened up for White Zombie doing an arena tour. Great fucking band and I'm glad that we have their music to show the next generation what the hell is what.

I couldn't let this thread go without adding my twocents

Absolutely not.
I'm listening to LENNY'S BAPTISM right now.

No, that wasn't a joke.

Lenny's great

(despite his own assertion that rock and roll is dead)

Rock is very much alive. Many believe it changed its name to rap in the mid-1980s, however. wink

To follow that train of thought, is rap in its hair-band phase, with all this gangsta drivel?

Outside of picking up his R&R Hall of Fame award, and producing Road to Ruin, Tommy hasn't really done shit.

That's a VERY hard question. Sorta like asking which Prince CD to listen to first. Their best album is RAMONES, but that's not the easiest to get into. I'd have to recommend "Rocket to Russia" or "Road to Ruin," as the album to begin with.

They were an incredible band. They changed the musical landscape, forever.

Thanks, Anxiety (that was the title of a Ramones' song, y'know? I believe on Mondo.). I need to believe that's true. This is killing me, to have my heroes gone.
