1987 George had the pass big time--Father Figure, One More Try, Hard Day (shep Pettibone remix) all got enormous R&B play..hell, he won the Grammy for R&B album of the year..not to mention Careless Whisper is still played on Quiet Storm formats across the nation

The 80s stuff was more straightfoward pop, so they pretty much only got airplay on the Top 40 stations (while their ballads became the benchmark of the "light rock, less talk" stations). A shame really, because at one time those white boys really had some R&B cred. Still, to this day you'll find older black folks who think fondly of their stuff. George Micheal had a lifetime pass, but got put on probation when he came out of the closet. Hate to say it, but its true. He could get it back if he dropped nother R&B CD like he did back in the day.

You're right about Jon B. Plus, he is only known by largely BLACK AUDIENCES anyway.

To keep it real, most black people I know (myself included) can't stand Eminem. I remember this one female (born & raised in Detroit) telling me that she hated Eminem and that a lot of people in the D think he's a cornball. I used to live in the Detroit area and I rarely heard Eminem's songs on the urban stations. He largely got play on Channel 955 or some pop station. So he should be put in the "OK for past contributions" category.

I'm no fan of Eminem, and I wish he'd go away already, but anyone who thinks he's not getting played on R&B radio is fooling themselves. He's wracked up a number of hits on the R&B charts, and those are tallied by monitoring R&B/hip-hop stations. I'm not gonna say I've polled any number of people, but I know plenty of people who love him, and plenty who dislike him (regardless of their own race). On the other hand, I've heard some of the biggest praise for him come from black people in the industry (Missy Elliott, Dr. Dre, Snoop, Timbaland). People who are highly praised often polarize audiences.

As far as him apparently not being played on Detroit stations goes - not too shocking. Prince, especially in his early days, was never really in heavy rotation on Twin Cities stations. I think hometown audiences can be particularly fickle.

I'm really struggling with the sentiment of this thread. After reading some of the comments on here I couldn't help but think to myself "I hope they're just joking."
