Yeah, but they/we love it! And here is even more... biggrin

Somebody said, that Prince should be the 'King Of Pop(culture)'. Just go around the world and ask who knows Prince and who knows MJ. Theres no way Prince comes near MJ's popularity. Prince may win the instrument fight, but popularity? No way.

Its always the same ole jealousy story on this board, the 'Only-Prince' fans should get over it, he is just the Prince, not the King. wink

No, Lennon is on the record as saying without elvis there would be no beatles. turn off your MJ tapes boss and learn some history. I'm no big fan of elvis but his hip shaking antics were revolutionary. And inspirational

This is all subjective. I can't evaluate Norah Jones without bias simply because her voice doesn't "give me chills". In fact, she bores me. So, I find her overrated, even though she obviously "does it" for other people.

That does not mean I don't respect her musical talent. I just think the music she makes is overrated.

MJ did begin the MTV era but people like Madonna certainly had a hand moving that forward.
Prince and Madonna also helped set the blueprint for pop culture but it seems MJ is getting all the credit for it.

And please, don't mention Elvis. Elvis revolutionized more than MJ ever did and MJ wouldn't have been as successful or recognized had it not been for Elvis. Elvis was a big influence on the Beatles, Beach Boys, Turtles and all other rock groups.

Who has MJ influenced- Beyonce and Justin Timberlake?

Michel Jackson set the blueprint and Prince and Madonna followed, they didn't help at all.
Without Michael, Prince would not have the heavy exposure he had on MTV.
Madonna barely become a female prototype of MJ, nothing new.

And don't talk about Elvis the fake Ricky Martin of his time.
MJ had a much bigger impact than Elvis.
Ask the R&B/Hip-Hop community if they're influenced by Elvis.
Ask Africans or South Americans if they've been influenced by Elvis.

Michael's influence has been global, it transcended racial, ethnics barriers.
Michael's influenced hip-hop, Dance, Rock, Pop artists, not Elvis.

Your screen name says it all, you will be closed minded no matter what i say.
That was a very closed minded statement, Elvis influenced a crapload more people than MJ.
Elvis will forever be a legend and MJ will be remembered as the "Thriller" man who molests children.
Seriously though Madonna did help move video forward, and set the standard of video for future female artists.
Prince is more musically brilliant than MJ could ever be. MJ's main talent is dancing.

It's people like you who prove my point that MJ is way too overrated. He gets more credit than he deserves.

How have you come to the conclusion that my post was closed minded?

Did I falsified something? Did I change history ?

Get on real life! If you want to believe that Elvis had a greater influence on music, that's fine but that's not empirically true.
Other people would think it's Michael.

Furthermore, I never said Michael was better musically than Prince, you inject it to your post because you seems frustrated that someone don't think like you. You even states that Michael would be remembered as a child molester and you tell me that I'm closed minded.

In my view, I say that Michael 's had a greater influence than Elvis cause he transcended barriers, he became global, someone who appealed to everyone.
That's not the case with Elvis. Ask Chuck D!

You were the one who said Elvis was the fake Ricky Martin of the past, such a stupid statement. And indeed closed minded.
Most people would admit Elvis' influence and i bet if you asked MJ himself he would agree.

I never denied MJ's influence-at all I just feel he is highly worshipped and credited with things he didn't entirely do himself.
I LOVE MJ! But i had to come to terms with the fact that he is the most self obsessed artist.

I don't like Elvis, his music does nothing for me, however i realize his influence is great.

This all started when people couldn't agree with my opinion. Notice i wrote "Janet" on my lift and JANFAN didn't jump all over me like a box of crickets. Why can't you people accept my opinion?

now that is what defines a close mind. MJ is a much better singer than elvis and prince will ever be. prince has written more songs than mj but mj has written better songs. and elvis has written NONE. you are bringing this prince vs mj thing all the time. Prince's only better at instruments and production skills. haters can say whatever they like. wink

And I agree with what speeddemon said about Elvis.

Wow you sure know how to read when i said "i love MJ" but instead you call me a hater, very mature.
If someone says one nagative thing about MJ thery're a "hater" god please people grow up!

My friend is exactly like you LightOfArt, anyone who doesn't like MJ is a "hater" and she feels the need to be on MJ's defense tem always.

And you agree with speeddeman because he/she is another MJ worshipper.

Well, if I offended you by comparing Elvis to Ricky Martin, I'm sorry.
But as far as you think that Michael might be overworshipped, I happen to think on the other hand that Elvis is way overrated. Don't you think he's also credited with things he didn't do entirely?

But, one thing you can't say is that Elvis is more influential than Michael or anybody because you can't know. This is something you can't quantify.

If I have more respect for Michael than someone like Elvis, it's cause he struggled to get where he is. Michael made the impossible by entering on the pop game, using the rules of the white corporation and changing it, bringing greater opportunity for those who had difficulties to be visible.

On the other hand, Elvis ruled at a time of segregation, race separation, white diktat. The guy had every door open to him cause he corresponded physically to the idea of America had of itself at the time.

Michael forced people in America to change their minds. After the Thriller Mania, more blacks ruled in their cultural endeavors: Bill Cosby became the most powerful person on TV, Eddie Murphy commanded the highest fee in the movie industry and Jessie Jackson ran for the Presidential. It was a time of change and hope where America decided to become a cross cultural and racial society.
Musically, everything changed in the 80's with Michael. Before him, music industry was about sound ( hits were made on radios or on clubs). After him, pop culture became multi-dimensional ( melting sound and image).
The use of new technologies and the advent of MTV enlarged the appeal of American culture around the world. At that time, communism collapsed and there were not anymore limits between the East and the West.
American entertainers such as Madonna, Prince or Janet began to be worshipped in countries such as Russia, China, India and East Europe. That's when globalisation began!
Michael revolutionnised everything by setting new rules to the way music is made and sold today.
