WHEN IS MJ GOING TO DROP NEXT SINGLE/VIDEO???

What in the world is marketing/protmotion doing on MJ's latest CD???? There has been no single or video for a while. The last one came out back in August/ Sept 2001. He should have released "Butterflies" as a single(and did a video) while radio was pumping the song hard(Butterflies is among the best Jackson songs ever). He didn't perform on the Grammies(probably because of that big lawsuit between Grammy Award president and Dick Clark). The CD is still doing OK. But it's just strange that he hasn't followed up with anything since Sept of 2001.

Seen the topic about Prince fans having to defend their taste in music. How do you defend being a Prince fan and MJ fan at the same time??

Do your collegues crack double jokes at you?

Good Morning Freeripop. My answer to your question is that I believe the MJ vs Prince thing is dumb. This has been going on since 1984. Since Prince hit it big with Purple Rain, people were now saying that he is the TRUE competitor to the status of MJ. But check out my post on the Michael Jackson-King Of Pop thread. MJ broke down doors in a big way for a lot of artists(especially on the commerical front), Prince included. Don't be fooled!!!!! One artist posesses something the other don't ..IT'S THAT SIMPLE!!!

I think there is room in this universe for both of them to display their individual talents...INDEED!!!!!

I've been hearing so many rumors about MJ lately.I hear that his next single will be "Heaven Can Wait" in the U.S.,and "Unbreakable" will be the next single in Europe.I heard that he has a 30-minute video for "Unbreakable" too. But,then,I also heard that he has been recording some new songs for a "top secret project".And,there are persistent rumors that he will tour this summer.

Take it all with a grain of salt.I'm sure he has something special up his sleeve, but for now,it's all just speculation.

I said it once and I'll say it again. I still think that Mike needs to just go in the studio and just cut a raw album without all the polish and sheen. I think this will be artistically liberating for him. I think we would see results that would be surprisingly great.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't dissing MJ. He's the one that led me to Prince in the first place. I was just wondering if MJ fans have to go through the same hassle of defending their ass everytime the mention their musical preferences.

I've only once seen MJ live, but did not like it much. there show came accross like a tight schedual with no room for improvisation. I've heard Candy Dulfer say in an interview that he, like Prince, also plays a lot of instruments. Why doesn't he get on stage and do an acoustic set just him and the instrument?

Unbreakable was due for release in Feb, at least in Europe, but the record company would not stump up millions for a video. MJ had a strop. All plans are on hold for any future promotion or single.

According to the british press, its the end of the road for the album and MJ is now working on something new.

As much as I like 'Invincible',I think Michael should begin work on a more introspective,PERSONAL album that lets the world know more about who he really is.He needs to write all the songs himself. He needs to do like Madonna did;she did alot of soul searching and wrote the 'Ray Of Light' CD.She DEFINED herself with that album, and the results were astonishing.MJ needs to forget about the charts, the big budgets, the expensive videos, and concentrate on making a DEFINITIVE album that gives us more insight into who he really is.Let's face it,songs like "Heartbreaker" and "2000 Watts" are cool songs, but they could just as easily have been done by N'Sync.

There are rumors that MJ wants to buy his own record company, which would give him the freedom to do an album like that.I say he should do it.

The prince vs MJ is pointless. One is a musical genius and the other is a pervert. MJ's album stunk and tanked. There is no point in releasing another single. Nobody cares.

lol agreed. I hate Mike, and theres just no need to compare, because who ever broke down the door or whatever or sold more records, it doesnt matter. We all know that Prince is better in every way, shape and form.

In all honesty, Invicible is not that bad of an album. If anyone else had released that album it would have flown crazily all over the charts. Simple because it was Michael, everyone expects this over the top project that he simply cannot live up 2 anymore. He will never b as hot as the days of Thriller again...was Frank Sinatra, was Elvis? No. He is at that level. He makes news stubbing a toe. He still has a HUGE following, as was witnessed by his TV special, "30 Year Anniversay" when over 29 million peeps tuned in 2 check it out. Invincible didn't fly off the charts, but it did debut at Number 1.

I'd like 2 see "Break Of Dawn" as the next single. I don't believe the album is dead, nor do I believe his career is dead either. Sony would b STUPID 2 not promote it any further...having him on their label is like a big diamond in the bank.

Ms

I hear ya, they spent $30 million on that invincible project and I just am not seeing it yet.

I agree they shoulda jumped on butterflies as black radio was pumping it in heavy rotation-butthey didnt.

i have seen a coupl single but thats it.

I think Mike is mad at how theyr handling it he mighta thrown his hands up about it and may already be workinf on his next under his new production co. who knows?

actually I read

he is going to be DROPPED by the record label???

so forget about singles/videos..

who knows

I don't think MJ has as much money as we all think he has...MJ owned "the beatles" music.. ALL of it.. BUT MJ sold "half" of it to Sony.. because he didn't have any money

he might have to sell the other half because he didn't make his money back on this album/concerts..what killed him .. is that $30 million production cost & another $30 million on promotion... plus that video.

* memo to MJ: put your EGO second and make a normal project.. and then you will actually make a PROFIT

LocoArts....you're cool with me and I respect your opinions, but those things you said are just *Rumors*.Michael is NOT about to be dropped by Sony.In fact,Sony is still heavily committed to this album.Michael is the one who refused to perform on the Grammys, and he is the one who refused to make a video for "Butterflies".Perhaps Michael has other things he wants to do with his career? He just spent $20 Million to start a new movie production company, and he makes a cameo appearance in the upcoming 'Men In Black Part 2' film. It's just my opinion, but I think Michael is planning to go in a whole new direction,as far as his career is concerned.

And as for the rumors about the Beatles' catalog,it's all lies.Michael is NOT gonna sell it,but if he did,he could get as much as $700 million for it.So,I wouldn't worry too much about his finances...lol...

I strongly disagree with anyone who says Sony is about to drop Mike from the label. MJ is one of the greatest/legandary showman/artists ever in music. Plus he has a strong sales/commericial track record. Sorry, I don't see this happening!!! I was stunned when Virgin dropped Mariah like they did. That incident could be the rarest of incidents, who knows????

DavidEye and Brother915, I am SO diggin' what u guys r saying. It's very cool 2 hear others with similar views as urs. I look 4ward 2 ur posts...all o' them.

I was also blown away with Mariah being dropped from her label. What a stupid stupid move. She has so much left in her 2 give. I hope her foray in2 her own label goes crazy, (oops shouldn't use that word 'round Mariah)...I mean goes wild.

She will prevail.

Invincible could have been an awesome album at ten tracks...But there is some really horrible hateful tones included. Im not talking madonnna/prince filler songs...you know, like most of Rave. But these songs suck!!! Why do today's performers think its better to release a 77minute album that includes crap...than a 55minute worth of wonderful uninterupted joy? i just dont get it..

on that note, butterflies is being played like crazy in the bay area...most artist don't release singles anymore anyways...so the lack of a released single is not a shock to me...whats shocking to me is no new video..my type to MJ: DONT APPEAR IN YOUR VIDEOS!! EVER AGAIN!!! Rock My World was a great song ruined by a horrible video and his "new" horrible face.....he should do a George Michael and make videos sans himself.

My thoughts on Invincible:
Good to hear the anger gone, but not as good as I would have expected. A little too polished and "radio friendly" for my liking. That means not much creativity.

As for video releases and sales; I couldn't care less. I have the album and that's all that matters to me.

Let's hope those rumours of a "top secret" album he's workingn on are true. Invincible was a bit of a let-down, overall.

As for MJ not having enough money or his own "record company". He owns MIJAC music. He owns his own songs. He uses Sony for distribution & marketing. Last I heard he joined his ATV Music Publishing catalogue with Sony's to make the world's biggest publishing powerhouse. He earns millions in royalties every year, even if he were to stop now and do nothing for the rest of his life.

he's a pedophile.....who cares.....a better question is:

When is MJ going to be exterminated?.....let's take up a

collection and hire OJ, he can fit it in his busy schedule

of searching for Nicoles murderer!

Hey, that would make for great pay-per-view, I'd buy it!

You've got to be kidding me, right? The only stupid thing Virgin did was sign her to that expensive contract to begin with. What kind of business gives a person 20-25mil per album, when their CD sales are declining?

Lest u 4get...Warner Bros. paid Prince big money (what 'round 100 million???) 4 a six album deal...he was way declining in sales at the time. He pumped out 3 quick ones, last contractual obligation being Chaos & Disorder, 2 get out of the contract.

Mariah is not over yet...her only flop was her last album...and it wasn't even that poor in sales. Just not in the tens of millions as they always were. Yes, I kid u not, I think it was premature of them 2 drop her so quickly, but she scored in the end. 48 million 4 one album...not bad Mariah.

k, now gimme the proof...any proof.
Michael has been nothing but loving towards kids, even from early in his career, and you'd know that if you've been following him from the early days.

BTW, paedophiles never stop at one kid. If Mike were a paedophile, he'd have a history of this sort of activity. God knows he's had plenty of chances to try something like that given his (necessarily) reclusive lifestyle through the decades if that sort of thing was on his mind. The fact is he hasn't.

His home has been cleaned out by authorities. He has been stripped naked and photos have been taken. Not one shred of evidence was found pointing Mike to this sort of activity.

I'm not saying they shouldn't have signed her. They just shouldn't have offered that much (and the same goes for Prince & WB). And now, because of that stupid deal, the people who used to run the record label got fired.

I don't understand why artists have to outdo each other with these high cash advances (Janet & Michael, REM). Why don't they negotiate for higher royalty rates, instead of getting their names in the press so people can see how much money record labels throw at them?

This is from dotmusic (sort of british "billboard") website (20/3/2002):
Michael Jackson is to start filming a short movie next month, dotmusic can exclusively reveal.

According to fansite mjstar.com, the long awaited video for Jackson's forthcoming single, 'Unbreakable', will be directed by 'Rush Hour' director Brett Ratner.

US comedian Chris Tucker is said to co-star in the video.

'Unbreakable' will be the third single to be taken from Jackson's recent album, 'Invincible', after "You Rock My World"(UK#2) and "Cry"(UK#25).

A release date for the single is yet to be confirmed.
