Anybody Like the Pointer Sisters? They were hot during the 70's and 80's and had a lot of hit songs, including "Automatic", "Come and Get It", "He's So Shy", "I'm So Excited", "Jump (For My Love)", "Neutron Dance", "Should I Do It", and "Slow Hand". I still enjoy listening to their music even today, they had some very catchy, danceable songs. [This message was edited Thu Aug 19 9:41:35 2004 by psychodelicide] RIP, mom. The first time I heard of them they had a 40's-type sound. They were singing songs like "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and dressing the part too. (Think: Black Andrews Sisters.) Their harmonies were really nice. Then they switched, I don't know when, late 70's early 80's? And they were pretty hot. I like "Automatic" and "Baby Come and Get It." Those and "(Betcha Got A) Chick on the Side)" are at the very top of my list... For an 80s cut, Automatic was cool... but Fire, Neutron Dance, and Jump would wind up lower in the regions of the list of favorites.

I was like, "WTF?" Not sure if she still has that problem; hopefully she's been able to overcome it. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

No problem, DavidEye. Guess I need to revise my starting thread to have it read, "They were hot during the 70's and 80's. I need to get a greatest hits CD too by them, since there were a lot of songs listed on this thread that I have either totally forgotten about or have never heard before. RIP, mom. I'm a huge 80's music fan and my all time favorite song by them is "Automatic" let's sing it
Look what you're doing to me I'm utterly at your whim All of my defenses down Your camera looks through me With its X-ray vision And all systems run aground All I can manage to push from my lips Is a stream of absurdities Every word I intended to speak Wind up locked in the circuitry Chorus: No way to control it It's totally automatic Whenever you're around I'm walking blindfolded Completely automatic All of my systems are down Down down down Automatic Automatic What is this madness That makes my motor run And my legs too weak to stand I go from sadness To exhilaration Like a robot at your command My hands perspire and shake like a leaf Up and down goes my temperature I summon doctors to get some relief But they tell me there is no cure They tell me Chorus Ohhh you keep saying stay the niiiiiiiiight
Just let me rock you 'til the morning liiiiiiight It's cold outside And much too late to driiiiiiiive You know I need you baby I'm so lost without your love Mariah Carey - Stay The Night

I loved the Pointer Sisters!!! They were phenomenal and still are!!! They could saaang any style of music, (I bet even opera!!!!), and set the place on fire. They play Vegas a lot. They're too classy for today's junk. My prayers are with June ( I hope she successfully recovers) I think Anita's daughter (June's niece is taking her place). I wonder why Bonnie never returned to the group. Lennytunia

Automatic is a great one that also sounds very Prince-y to me. How Long (Betcha Got a Chick on the Side) is another great one. I always liked June's crazy teefs.

Great thread -- love the Pointer Sisters! They're so diverse, they used to perform at the Grand Ole Opry in the 70's. My favorites by them are "Yes We Can Can", "Chick On The Side", "Automatic" and "Dare Me".
