Sometime in 1974 Pointer Sisters released a GREAT C&W song.
Its called Fairytale. In the fall of '74 I lived in Minneapolis & I would listen to the C&W radio station just to hear that song. I don't love C&W music so it was torture waiting for that song to be played everyday. Eventually I bought the 45 even though I didn't own a stereo. When I finally got to play it the damn thing skipped. I still love that song.

Oh, and I've always thought that you can actually see June's snatch when she steps out of her bubble bath in the "I'm So Excited" video. Bonnie (I think it was her) had a pretty successful solo career and the hit "Heaven Must've Sent You." I loved that record.

I don't think their version of Slow Hand made country radio airplay, but Conway Twitty's version was a big hit (#1, I believe). I remember hearing his version a lot when I was younger.

You must get "Yes We Can Can" The Blue Thumb Recordings. That has all of their 70's jams when there was four of them (before Bonnie went solo) this covers the best tracks from their early albums. You'll groove all day to this. A side note, they were the first black group to play The Grand Ole Opry and one of the first to play the Metropolitain Opera House (LaBelle was the first)...since someone mentioned Opera.

I got a 3-CD import of theirs for a reasonable price that includes all their stuff with RCA, including some solo stuff. "Dirty Work" is amazing and I'm surprised it was never a bigger hit or that someone never covered it (or has it been covered). I'll definately check out their early stuff when I get a chance. I'd love to see a comeback from the 3 of them but with the drama it might never happen.

Look what you're doing to me I'm utterly at your whim All of my defenses down Your camera looks through me With its X-ray vision And all systems run aground All I can manage to push from my lips Is a stream of absurdities Every word I intended to speak Wind up locked in the circuitry Chorus: No way to control it It's totally automatic Whenever you're around I'm walking blindfolded Completely automatic All of my systems are down Down down down Automatic Automatic What is this madness That makes my motor run And my legs too weak to stand I go from sadness To exhilaration Like a robot at your command My hands perspire and shake like a leaf Up and down goes my temperature I summon doctors to get some relief But they tell me there is no cure They tell me Chorus When that song came out, many people thought it was a man (!) singing the lead vocals...lol...they thought it was a new Stevie Wonder song, lol.
