Fire and Desire I was listening to the radio this past Saturday and heard an interview with Teena Marie. She stated that she recorded Fire and Desire with a 101 degree temp. She was 22 years old and had just checked herself into the hospital for a nervous breakdown. Rick and his people snuck her out of the hospital and took her to the studio. They recorded the song in one take. After the recording, the snuck her back into the hospital. That was the first time I had heard about that. Is there anyone that is not as clueless as I was about this?

No, I wasn't hip to this, but I can believe it. Plus, I don't see why Teena would lie about something like that. The woman can blow, so she could pull that off even though she was sick. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

back in the days Rick did an interview(Right on, maybe) and was asked why Fire and Desire wasnt a single. his reply: "Fire and Desire is selling the hell out of the album right now"
Ahhh...the good old days when it actually paid to have quality cuts on your album.

I remember Rick giving an interview years ago about the song and he said he called Teena up about the song and she got up out of her sick bed and came on over. He didn't mention that Teena was in the hospital though.
Teena's a bad girl though.....sick or well. Andy is a four letter word.

Yeah,I heard this story before. It's amazing how great Teena sounds on that song, considering she was really sick and most likely not in the mood to sing anything. This reminds me of a Toni Braxton story I once heard. When she recorded her songs "Another Sad Love Song" and "Breathe Again",she actually had a bad cold. But LA and Babyface pushed her to sing anyway, and they liked the way she sounded with a cold, lol.

GREAT SONG...shame that the last version the world had to hear of it was that horrible self-parody on the BET Awards..that was like watching Muhammad Ali fight Larry Holmes...just a painful to watch..they looked terrible and sounded terrible...kinda like on the old Living Color show where they had the brother and sister singers...dayumm what was their names..Cephus and Reesie (I always thought that a was a jab at Bebe and Cece Winans) you look better on your facebook page than you do in person

Ahhh...the good old days when it actually paid to have quality cuts on your album. Very good point.Back in the day, artists made albums where nearly EVERY track was a potential single.'Street Songs' is a filler-free album.I was always amazed that "Fire and Desire" wasn't released as a single. It received as much airplay as the official singles.
