Most of my faves already appeared in other postings. Here are a few not so familiar names, but great guitarist none the less. If you're from the NYC area you may have heard of them. In no particular order..... 1. Gordon Gaines 2. Mark Bowers 3. Nat Gardiner 4. Johnny Allen 5. Michael Hill And I'll toss in Bill Connors and Ray Gomez for good mearure. I'm certain that their names are familiar to a few of you. -K- You know about Mark Bowers? He and his brother Carlos (who plays bass) are semi-legends here in New Jersey! I heard some of Mark's solo stuff at Network Studios - don't know if he ever released it. It was slammin', though. My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

I heard about Mark years ago from one of my pals, when asked about any local cats (guitarist) who really had their stuff together and Marks name immediately came up. I had heard this quite often from a few folks. I didn't actually get so hear Mark play until I saw him performing with a R&B cover band "The Company You Keep". He's fantastic. I got a chance to speak with him during a break in the set, he's really cool & down to earth. I was living in East Orange at the time & would run into him once in a while. I last ran into him @ Newark Penn Station, about a year & 1/2 ago he was on his way either to or from a gig. During the course of the conversation he let me know about his blues band "L'il Bastad" (spelled just as I typed it). They have a website up for you to check out. I had left the gig I saw him play early. If I'd stayed later I'd have been treated to his version of "Purple Rain" Which from my friends account was great! If I recall correctly He did perform "The Ride" during the set I saw. Like I said he's fantastic! He let me check out one of his strats. It was the absolute lightest action I felt on any guitar. He said to me when I inquired about it.....Why make it had for myself? His tone & feel were great? BTW, I'm located in Union, NJ these days, where about are you from? -K-

I used to play guitar in a funk band called "The 3rd and Jam". We played at Euphoria Cafe in Newark on Fridays about 2 years ago. Our bass player was real tight with Mark's brother, Carlos Bowers... I also used to manage a store in Montclair called Valley Road Guitars, from 2002 - late 2003. A bunch of Jersey legends would stop by: Joe Taino (who was also our tech and a friend of Peter Frampton), Ted Stills, and a bunch of Jersey bad-asses... Is Valley Road Guitars still in business? The only Montclair guitar shop I'm familiar with is Rocktech(?) on Bloomfield Ave, across the street from where Crazy Rhythms use to be. The couple of times I stopped through, I was really suprised at the amount of junk they were trying to sell. Every axe I picked up was out of tune w/crusty strings & loose hardware there were aslo a quite a few frankensteined guitars, that were being passed off as custom built. Anyways..... are there still any good spots in the Newark where you can see live band music? I've been out the loop for a good while, so I wouldn't even know where to begin. I did get a chance to see Milo Z perform @ NJPAC about a month or so ago. I enjoyed it a whole lot. -K-

Didn't stop to see my former boss, though. Maybe next time... At one point, it was like Cheers - people would just stop by, hang out and keep me company. Sometimes, I would stay open past the regular hours 'cause I was havin' so much fun. The power of music is a beautiful thing Rocktech has always sold crap - at ridiculous prices! I've heard so many horror stories from people who've dealt with them. I was in there last week checking out cds (they never have any equipment worth checking out). I left though, when the owner tried to sell a mother and daughter a piece of shit guitar.... Besides the NJPAC, I don't know of too many places to see live band music. I know NJPAC had its Thursday summer series. Don't know if that's still goin' on... My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

I don't recall a live version of that song, but I do know that it originally appeared on this (their first) album. Maybe, you thought it was live because of that bad ass solo (eruption) that goes into this song.
