Wow great question, never realized how little I've been listening to guitar players these days
Grant Green
Zappa- Dude never practiced inbetween tours, that takes balls
B.B. And the Stingers- ya'll never heard of him
Neil Young- king of the one note guitar solo
Patti Larkin- Acoustic Goddess
Wes Montgomery- Smooth, but not in that Cheesy way
Boogie- All that funky stuff underneath Eddie and Mike that made it groove

My faves with a little overview.

Nile Rodgers - I learned the value of good rhythm guitar and he plays hip chord voicings like Freedie Green. Selected tracks: Adult Education (Hall And Oates) I Want Your Love (Chic)

Keith Richards - If you listen to Love You Live or anything by the Stones you'll know that no matter what interesting state Keith is in he holds the rhythm down. Selected tracks: Midnight Rambler, It Must Be Hell, Street Fighting Man.

Jeff Beck - Jeff is always trying to change and try new things. He and Jimi were the real 60's guitar heroes. Selected CD's Truth, There And Back, Blow By Blow.

Randy Rhoads - He mixed Classical with rock a few years ahead of the 80's crew. Selected tracks: Tonight (Diary Of A Madman) Mr Crowley (Blizzard Of Ozz)

Allan Holdsworth - Ever hear a guitar sound a Soprano Sax? Check out "Devil Take The Hindmost" from Metal Fatigue. Road Games is a great CD also.

Steve Vai - Steve is always interesting. My favorite CD of his is Sex And Religion with Terry Bozzio, TM Stevens and Devin Townsend. "Rescue Me Or Bury Me" is my favorite solo of his.

Other stuff I Like solos and players.

Frank Zappa - Zoot Allures
Steely Dan - Third World Man Larry Carlton on guitar.
Shawn Lane was an unappreciated guitar player who should be heard.
Ray Gomez - Blues For Mez
Carpenters - Goodbye To Love Tony Peluso on guitar.
Gary Moore - Victims Of The Future, Corridors Of Power

3. Nat Gardiner
4. Johnny Allen
5. Michael Hill

And I'll toss in Bill Connors and Ray Gomez for good mearure. I'm certain that their names are familiar to a few of you.
