besides Hendrix, Hazel and Prince, who are your Guitar gurus?

guitar I know we got legions of Hendrix fans. and we're on Prince.org, so I know y'all dig him...and I agree with all the Maggotbrains who Hail Hazel.... but who are your other six string sultans? Zappa, Clapton, Dez? Richard Thompson, Jimmy Nolen? Stevie Ray? Earl Klugh? Benson? Carlton? Freddie Stone? Lemme know...

Well as u know pali, I ran a thread on here quite awhile ago on the best black rock guitarists since Hendrix and we got a GRIP of responses, which was cool. Besides Hendrix, Eddie Hazel, myself, Ernie Isley, Jessie Johnson, Dez, Prince and all the other black cats who was mentioned on that thread, here are just a few of my favorites in no special order:

Robert Johnson
Santana
Ace Frehley
David Gilmour
Jimmy Page
Brian May
Uli Roth
Glen Buxton
Robin Trower

Without the influence of these people, I would not become the greatest guitarist of all time. guitar

Charlie Christian (inventor of lead guitar)
Chuck Berry (the REAL king of Rock!)
Bo Diddley (inventor of the scratch method)
Jimi Hendrix (The greatest guitarist in Rock & Roll history, even though he was simple Blues)
Django Reinhardt (only 3 fingers eek)
Bob Marley (underrated riddim player)
The Edge (U2)
Steve Jones (Sex Pistols)
George Benson (the hitmaker)
Ernie Isley (the best Rocker in Soul music)
Andy Gill (Gang of Four)
Omar Rodriguez (At The Drive In, arguably, the last great post-hardcore band!)
Jesse Johnson (One of the coolest to rock out in pink)
Leroy "Sugarfoot" Bonner (Ohio Players)
Johnny Ramone (The Ramones)
Jimmy Page (The Man!!!!!)
Dez Dickerson (arguably, best guitarist Prince has ever worked with)
Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders)
Roger McGuinn (The Byrds)
Johnny Marr (The Smiths, solo shit too)
Paul Haig (Josef K)
Joe Strummer ("the only band that mattered")
Mick Jones (lead guitarist of that "only band")
Gareth Sager (The Pop Group)
Nile Rodgers (One of the few reasons why Disco didn't suck)
Robert Smith (The Cure)
Eddie Van Halen (I'm still trying to learn fretboard tapping)
Tom Verlaine (Television)
John Frusciante (Chili Peppers)
George Harrison (needs no introduction)
John Lennon (same here)
Catfish Collins (The J.B.'s, yeah!)
Wendy (the Rickenbacker, yo, the Rickenbacker headbang)
Hillel Slovak (the original Chili Pepper)
Brother Freddie Stone (kept it funky the whole way through)
Lynval Golding (master of the Ska riddims as a member of The Specials)
Elvis Costello (tragically underrated)
Andy Summers (brilliant Policeman)
David Byrne (another underrated one)
Paul Weller (so many underrated guitarists)
Mark White (ABC. He's awesome)
Matthew Ashman (Bow Wow Wow. Vive le New Wave!!!)
Eddie Hazel (Just listen to Maggot Brain)
Nick Heyward (Haircut 100. Man, he was a fast rhythmist!)
Peter Buck (R.E.M. great jangly pop guitarist)
Mitch Easter (Another great jangly pop guitarist, with a RICKENBACKER!)
John McLaughlin (So good, his very name became a Miles Davis track!)
Al DiMeola (Amazing. I saw him live, and it was off the chain!)
