I like the cover portrait (assuming it's a self portrait, cuz it looks like the other stuff MM has painted) but I'm not thrilled with the cover design...kinda looks like fan art or somethin. Still and all, I might actually pick up the special edition of this - I like looking at his vids.

I'll be getting it for the videos as well.

I wish he would've had fans vote on it or at least had a better selection of tracks for the main listing-songs like "The Death Song" and "Coma White" should've been included along with "Man That You Fear", "Snake Eyes and Sissies", something other than more obvious singles with a few other tracks thrown in.

"Astonishing Panorama of the Endtimes" is another favorite that could have been included as well and should have.

Just seems a little incomplete/doesn't flow as well as it could. I guess everybody can still make their own favorites mix, but for an official release it could've been so much more.

John 5's got a new guitar album coming out in September called Vertigo for those interested by the way.

That depends what element you mean. I grew up geographically and time wise smack in the middle of the brit synth pop revolution.

But Soft Cell and Depeche mode had no gothic roots.

I guess at the same time, he wanted to show off some of his artwork as well. Pretty damn good likeness.

I'd be interested in hearing what John's up to these days. He's really a diverse guitar player. Prince would definitely benefit from having him on board. Plus, I've met the guy and can say he's very down to earth and a genarally cool dude.

I think most "best of" packages are pretty much the same. They all have the hits that everyone's familiar with. Another idea would have been to make it a double hits album. One CD with the current track list, and the other would have the rest of the die-hard fan favorites. I would have thrown in:

Angel With the Scabbed Wings
Irresponsible Hate Anthem
My Monkey
Spade
The Golden Age Of Grotesque
Great Big White World
New Model, No. 15
Last Day on Earth
Coma White
Target Audience (Narcissus Narcosis)
Cruci-Fiction in Space
King Kill
Valentine's Day
Rock 'N' Roll Nigger
Cake and Sodomy
1996
Astonishing Panorama of the Endtimes

Yeah, he wanted to make an exact note for note replica of the song, but someone beat him to the punch...

The portrait is fine - it's just the cover layout that I think sucks eggs. Kinda reminds me of another album cover with a decent portrait and a crappy layout...

That might be worth checking out since I don't have any of his stuff but have been kind of interested. The DVD edition is probably the way to go.

Wouldn't have minded "Anti-Christ Superstar", "Dope Hat" and "Irresponsible Hate Anthem" (my personal fave). Woulda left off "This Is The New Shit", I just didn't care much for that tune.

btw. "Tainted Love" was not a Soft Cell original.

However, what I was referring to is that most goth clubs play 80s synth music all the time. And it's been pretty much stardard practise for electronic / industrial rock acts to put covers of 80s pop classics on their records (especially as single B-sides / album extra tracks) since the mid-90s. It's become a rather dire thing to be honest.

Oh, and I also would have included "I Don't Like The Drugs (but the drugs like me)" and "I've Put A Spell On You".

Damn, I knew a Manson compilation was on the way but I would have preferred a disc of compilation only tracks. There are more than enough of those floating around to fill a single disc. I would love to have most of those on a single disc, especially his cover of "The KKK Took My Baby Away". I LOVE his version. Oh, well, maybe a rarities compilation is in the works?I'm usually not too big on video compilations but his will probably be more interesting than the average one.

There really does need to be a compilations tracks/b-sides/rarities disc. I have quite a few (although some of mine disappeared a while back)

Just off the top of my head:

Golden Years (Bowie cover)
Apple Of Sodom
Suicide Is Painless (cover of the M*A*S*H* theme)
5 to 1 (Doors cover)
Working Class Hero (Lennon cover)
The KKK Took My Baby Away (Ramones cover)
Highway To Hell (AC/DC cover)
Diamonds And Pollen
Baboon Rape Party
Mind Of A Lunatic
Get My Rocks Off (Dr Teeth cover)
Down In The Park (Gary Neuman cover)
Revelation #9

Any others??
