The Family Stand This group has got to be one of the most criminally underrated, under-appreciated, slept on groups of the 90s. From their debut as Evon Geffries & the Stand until their last LP, Connected (1998) they made brilliant music for themselves as well as for others...(the only side production that received acclaim was Paula Abdul's Spellbound LP) I guess they had such a hard time because they really couldn't be categorized as Rock or R&B.
If you know these guys, list your favorites. Mine: I'll omit some to prevent being a ball-hog Why Does It Hurt When We Kiss Sax With A Stranger Ghetto Heaven In Summer I Fall Sweet Liberation New World Order Shelter Free Spirit Moon In Scorpio Quiet Desperation The Education of Jamie The entire Connected LP | |

I have their first two albums. With Sandra StVictor.
I so totally love Moon In Scorpio. Thanks for putting Quiet Desperation in your top list. That song still gets to me. I love Where Does Mommie Live too. And the lyrics of Plantation Radio is SO true. Should we send it to WNPG? | |

I don't know if you're into Corey Clover (Living Colour) but they produced the bulk of his solo album 'Hymns'. I see. Do they record their solo albums under the name of The Family Stand? p.s. - Check the Finess thread in a few and i'll show you where you can catch a whiff of Love (Can Make You Happy) tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Although "Evon Geoffries"and "Chain" were pretty uneven, the 3rd album, "Moon In Scorpio" was one of the best releases of the 90's-- It made me think wow, there's actually some people out here in PoP/R&B that wanna play MUSIC!!--they just threw caution to the wind and said "F**K Formats!! let's make the kinda music we wanna make--that, and Fishbone's "Reality Of My Surroundings" gave me some hope!! everything came togethr on "moon --it sounded like Stevie Wonder and Chaka playing with Vernon Reid!! (Ronnie Drayton was killin on the guitar!!) what I liked most about it was the way rock, soul, funk and pop were all one on the same album, coming from the same source---at a time(early 90's) when music had become so extremely polarized, and New Jack, Gangta rap and Grunge had replaced everything else, (and Prince was busy foolin' around with Tony M, tryin' to figure out how to make his albums sound worse)---
----Of course the album didn't sell shit...with a sound like that, it was too good to "Fit on anybody's format", as the radio programmers love to say... The Connected CD is one of the most slept on CDs in the history of R&B. If you see it, buy it - or miss out. | |

This was definitely their best album. Although I miss Sandra St. Victor on it, Jacci McGhee made a pretty good fit. | |

This was definitely their best album. Although I miss Sandra St. Victor on it, Jacci McGhee made a pretty good fit. I'm on my 3rd copy of Connected. Keeps getting scratched and stolen. It really is one of the most slept on albums in recent memory. You Dont Have to Worry got a little airplay, but that whole album deserved to be heard. I have'nt heard Moon in Scorpio in years, but the title track was niiice. | |

Didn't Jackie McGhee serve as the group's lead vocalist for a hot minute? | |

Only "Ghetto Heaven" comes to mind. Their name always reminded me of Sly & the FS. | |

See, my point exactly! Radio airplay limits ones musical adventures. Turn the radio off and put on a CD that you never heard before!!! | |

I had their "Connected" album which I bought for like 0.2£ and sold back for like 0.5£. So I actually made some money off that trade. I also made few pennies of profit when I traded Corey Glover's "HYMNS" album, which also was produced by The Family Stand. So, yeah. I like The Family Stand. They are a group that keep making me richer instead of losing money on their records. | |
