Shep Pettibone was HUGE remixer in the 80's

-Paula Abdul-"Shut Up and Dance!" (I remember that one!)
-Jody Watley-"Do You Wanna Dance"
-Bobby Brown-"Dance...Ya Know It!"
-Madonna-"You Can Dance"

Well looks like the trend is beginning again!!!

Anxiety

Even Gorillaz put out a crap remix album, though the Soulchild remix of "19/2000" kicks much ass. The only reason to buy the thing, other than the pretty cartoons.

Like it or not, "J to the Lo" went 2 number 1! An album is only as strong as the sheep that rush 2 buy it.

Not that that makes it a great album...just smart record label exec's rushing 2 make the quick buck.

Such is the record biz...always has been, always will b.

Thank God 4 NPG records!!!

Brother915

Remix albums are just another way for record companies to make more $$$$$ off of their popular artists while the artists themselves are in the lab preparing new material for release.

If all the remixed songs on Jennifer Lopez' album is like the "remixes" of "Ain't It Funny" and "I'm Real" then this is NOT a remix album but a normal studio album.I don't think those two remixes have any other similarities with the originals besides the titles.Different melodies, different lyrics, different choruses. How could they be considered remixes? There is not even a single lyric in there sung the same way...

more Shep Pettibone:
Run DMC: "Tricky" 12"ep
&
PRINCE: "Glam Slam" 12"
PRINCE: "Hot Thing" 12" remixes
I never much dug Shep's mixin' too much.
&
William Orbit, lol, uses the same type of remix alot.
"Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"

Anxiety

Shep Pettibone stuff always seemed pretty boring to me.

William Orbit's "The Future" and "Electric Chair" remixes are among my favorite mixes, though - and I love what he did with Blur's 13 album, not to mention Madge Ritchie's "Frozen". I don't think he's brilliant, but he's pretty damn good.

Remix albums are cool,I guess,but I really love buying maxi-singles.These include about 5 or 6 remixes of a single song,and that's usually all the remixes I need.Many maxi-singles also add a non-album track,so that's an added bonus.

I don't think I'd actually go out and buy a whole album just because it's been re-mixed. I might go buy the single with re-mixes on them. I always liked that about Prince, he gives u 'bout 5 to 7 different versions of the same song on his maxi-singles.

Nowadays, u don't even need 2 buy the remixes... it's all downloadable. I don't feel bad 'bout it either, especially if I bought the original album in the 1st place!

Currently, I'm enjoying the remix of "You Rock My World" with Michael Jackson featuring Jay-Z.

It downloaded just fine..... smile
