***Jamiroquai

***Brenda K.Starr---She had that massive hit in 1988 "I Still Believe".She has a great voice, but doesn't get the attention she deserves. This could change, with the release of her new CD a few weeks ago.

Sigur Ros - the best band that you've probably not heard of - pick up their last album if you want to hear something completely different.

HEEEEEYYYYY Darababyd, I can't believe someone else on this board knows about Rahssann Patterson, let alone digs him. The boy has soul. Did you know he wrote "Baby" the hit single from Brandy's first album. Anyway, unfortunatly I believe he no longer has a record deal. He used to have a website but it has disappeared. You also need to check out his second album it is excellent as well.

I sure do - I heard his song, "Baby Stop By" on the radio & freaked, I thought it was Prince!! Soon learned about the brother named Rahsaan & went right out & bought the whole cd which is great.
AFter reading your post I found a website about him at mcarecords.com.. he is still alive!! I am going to get his 2nd album right away - no i didnt know he wrote "Baby" by Brandy - that is soooo cool!!

I joined his fan club on mcarecords website, I suggest you do the same! Keep me posted if you get any other news.. He deserves it!!

butterfly it is the symbol of total transformation. Butterfly represents a need for change and greater freedom, and at the same time it represents courage: one requires courage to carry out the changes

VelvetJ, u feelin me!? Thanks!
Yeah, it is truly amazing how black music changed that quick! It went from quality to thuggery in the blink of an eye! To this day it's hard for me to believe it.

As Nelson George put it way back before it happened, "The Death Of Rhythm And Blues".

Every now and then BET will show videos from this period, the mid to late 80's to about '93. It is mindblowing to see how yng black men used to actually dance together and smile nicely too, now? Everybody got on the Uuugh Face! Look like a thug and get paid for it!

If the new children didnt know any better they would think black women are all hoochies on the videos and have always been and black men look like thugs 24-7 in videos holdin Cristal!!!

Sad but true!

Jamiroquai (Space Cowboy) Underground smash in NY/NJ and the fact that he has a real band.

Dionne Farris (Wild Flower-Wild Seed)..or visa-versa...it was her debut album after she bounced from Arrested Development (Food For Thought) What?...Radio wasn't ready for this album at all. The only time I heard her music anywhere else outside of my stereo was on NY Undercover.

Teena Marie W-H-A-T????? Lets face it the girl can belt out the tunes...Please come back and show these young girls how to do it! (Aladdin's Lamp, If I Was Your Bell) OOOO the goose pimples!!

Lisa Stansfield, Taylor Dane, Annie Lennox ( You just can not deny the soul these ladies have).

Phyllis Hyman,(what a shame) Her concerts used to be sold out!! U Know How to Luv ME, Confusions.

Lisa Fisher Would you like to see her duet with Prince?smile

Stephanie Mills (Unique Voice) Cheryl Lynn (Big Voice)

Patti Labelle I argue with people on this one all the time. If you never saw her live then SHUT_UP!! My personal favorite is "What can u Do for Me" an underground classic! Someone always crying at her live performances.

Shanice (not even a song, I think it's and interlude) INNER CHILD...I've played this at least 15-20 times over and over saying to myself "that girl can blow"....Alive, Alive!!!!

Don E., Collective Soul aaawwww now I got to break out the CD's!smile smile smile

The Cure- my favorite band- biggrin. I always hear New Order and The Smiths get more props, but Robert Smith is a modern-day minstrel! Anyone check out [color=red:e81073a25a:f7f086f1d6]BloodFlowers? It is incredible! "Disintegration" is simply perfect...

The Cure is my favorite band also. I think Disintegration, Pornography, and BloodFlowers are all perfect. Did you ever get the Japanese release of BloodFlowers? It has an extra track on it. Wish they would tour the US this year.

SkletonKee

you all have named some great singers and bands..but, I really dont consider Annie Lennox, The Cure, Sade and a couple few others as "underrated"..Annie has been MIA because she hasnt released an album in a while..but i guess it all depends on where you live...UK and USA get more publicity then other countries...and then places like LA, SF get more of a bush then Nutbush USA..so guess its all in the perspective....smile

my underrated acts are:

SwingOutSister- These kids can break down the philly soul...they had one hit "breakout" in the mid-80's and dissappeared after that..but they have released like 7 albums since..and each gets better and better..

Toni Childs- Awww...she had one minor hit "Dont Walk Away" in the late 80s...she no longer performes due to an illness...anyone interested in great rock should check out The Woman's Boat.

FiveStar- Okay, I know they are a really cheesy want to be Jets meets Jackson Five...But, I love em non the less..my one and only guilty pleasure..they have over 8 albums since their first two hits...they have a new one that came out last year too...need to pick it up..

Hey, for all you Shanice fans..you gotta check out her Shanice Wilson "Discovery" album...Her first release...its funky and really R&B...and blows her more "pop" babyface stuff out the door...someone stole my cassette copy and I recently was able to collect all the songs via audiogalaxy...AND THE SONGS STILL ROCK!!! 15 years later.
