Billy Idol - anyone like him out there nowadays?

Just downloaded a Billy Idol Best-of from iTunes - and suddenly feel like 16 again lol

Good, this man had energy just like Prince - different music, of course, and of course not as musically talented, but listening to the record makes you want to bounce around and play air-guitar just like "Let's go crazy" did.

I know I will get flames for that comparison, but hey...

Anyway, anyone with good suggestions who is the Billy Idol of today?

I think that he is very talented. I have the hits too so I am just a surface fan but Steve Stephens guitar is awesome on tracks rebel yell and white wedding.

I think that eyes without a face is one of the best songs around.
Music is the best...

Yeah, I do or did. I liked Billy in his glory years. "White Wedding" and his Rebel Yell album is great. "Daytime Drama" is killing. Great cut. I saw Billy in concert in 84 and Dez Dickerson was the opening act. I didn't know Dez was opening untill I got my ticket and saw Dez's name on the ticket. I flipped! He and Billy were both great. Saw Billy in concert again at The Roxy in Hollywood about 2 years ago. He was great then too. Stevie Stevens is a very good guitarist.

i often listen to "sweet sixteen" and "fatal charm"!Billy rocks.I see'd him w/The Cult before.Great show.I always thought Billy and Prince should have done some hard rock together. He kinda' reminded me of Prince in that he was sorta androgynous punk and had a sideman axe master in Steve Stevens and Prince had Dez,

I like "To Be A Lover" and "Hot In The City" except for the chorus.

I had a friend in high school who used to say that Idol's guitarist Steve Stevens looked like Prince in Billy's videos. I guess it was the wild hair and trench coat. shrug

You should check out Billy's VH1 Storytellers performance-he's as good on it as he was back in the day, if not better. biggrin

I still love his guitar player Steve Stevens more than him though, man that guy can play!

On the Storytellers performance White Wedding is turned into an acoustic performance with just him and Billy-and really shows off Steve's playing-solo and all-and the audience chants along as well.

The albums are alright, but I seem to listen to the Storytellers stuff more than Greatest Hits or any of the albums.

I bought his "Greatest Hits" when it came it out and really dug it. I always thought he should have attempted a comeback with new material at that time but other than his "Storytellers".

Billy Idol is highly underrated - both as a solo artist and when he fronted
Generation X, who were a great band. I hope he makes the mother of all comeback albums soon.

I met him two sumers ago at the ELectric Factory in PHilly. HE had Steve (Stevens?) signed my concert ticket. I have to say Billy can still rock out! He knows he's not mainstream anymore and actually has fun with that notion at his shows. It was one of the most energetic shows i've seen in a while.
