Prog-Rock Song of the Day - Hocus Pocus

An unlikely American hit from the 1971 album Moving Waves by the Dutch group Focus.
Not only did the tune's arrangement include blistering guitar work by guitarist Jan Akkerman, it featured yodeling and an accordian solo section by the vocals/keys/flute man Thijs van Leer (maybe a Dutch orger can help with the 1st name).

This tune has one of the meanest (and musical) single line/chordal guitar riffs of its time.

Anybody else hip to this piece?

Hell yeah player! I have the album. The riff is coldblooded! Good mention.

Has it been sampled? (Don't think I know it, but if it's been sampled, well, that's a clue.

Not really much more to tell except that the essence of the band was on side 2 of the Moving Waves record. Unfortunately, the success of Hocus Pocus obscured that fact.

Outside of that single, which went to #9 on the pop charts, they never again achieved mainstream success.
They had numerous lineup changes including, maybe their oddest group, P.J. Proby (vocals), Phillip Catherine (guitar) and Steve Smith (drums).

They've got about 14 records out and are still a working band.

You can catch a smidgen of Hocus Pocus on the allmusic site.
However you'll get a very myopic view of the complete song.

Thanks.
To be perfectly honest this particular tune, at the time, was the one that gave me a totally different perspective on rock guitar soloing.
