DID ANYONE IN LA GO TO THE RICK JAMES FUNERAL?

My hand to God, I got an email today saying there was to be a public viewing/wake from 5pm - 8pm for Rick James at Forrest Lawn in Hollywood, and that a party was expected to ensue. I work near there and some office mates of mine and I were considering going so see what was up - but ultimately I felt it to be disrespectful to the REAL mourners who'd be there, so I didn't go.

Wonder if Rick would've wanted a party at his viewing? eek

I'm in mournin' too. Styled the classic green skull PFunk tee,
Pumpin' Rick James tunes, funkin' out with a flyin' funk sign as I pass his coffin. I'm representin' the funk.

Met up with my Funkadelic buddy and we burnt one off.

Hennessy and sandwhiches before heading back.

I was playin' the Long Beach show on the way home.

I'm going in early to get a spot for the funeral service tomorrow.

I don't live anywhere near LA but if I did, I would love to have gone and shown my respect. I could be wrong but I would think it would make the family feel better to see how many fans he had and people that loved him that never even met him.

As for a party afterwards, I think it is a GREAT idea. Death is such a sad occasion but if you think about it, it should be a happy occassion. The person has gone on to a far better place than they were on this earth. We are sad for our own selfish reasons, mainly because we are going to miss the person. Of the course the party should be thrown in good taste with no "I'm Rick James Bitch!" being thrown around. I can just imagine Teena Marie, The Mary Jane Girls, The Stone City Band, Billie Dee Williams, Eddie Murphy, Smokey Robinson, Rick's family, and tons of Rick's fans all there partying, reminising, and having a good time while DJs mix nothing but Rick James funk back to back.

I really wish I could have gone to the public viewing and the party afterwards. But I'll continue to show my respect by playing his music non-stop,which I've been doing since last Friday.

A girlfriend of mine knows a few people in Rick's camp through her older sister and she went to the funeral with her. She didn't go the party though. Said she would have felt out of place being it was so tight knitted. I was in the studio last night but I got a card and signed it and gave it to her to give Rick's family.
SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him."
