Jamiroquai

Does anyone listen to them? If so, I was wondering what you thought was the reason why their current cd hasn't given them any 'hits' in the USA?

There's a lot of really good pop music out there that doesn't make the U.S. Top Ten for WHATEVER reasons - I'm sure if I learned half of what went on in the music industry, I'd wanna jump out a window. Or at least throw half my CD collection out of one.

I was always shocked that Saint Etienne never had any US hits - stuff like "Hug My Soul" and "He's On The Phone" were catchy as hell!

i guess we'd be jumping holding hands or throwing hundreds of titles out of the window together. the little that i know makes me queasy.

I think the stuff's way out there for the US audience. US audience and it's music is just homogenized and safe-the pop world. Like musically-politically-correct.

Nothing is pushing towards a new direction, no experimentation. It's been like this for a few years, nothing daring, new, completley different from what's in the "cool book".

You know, the book most new "artists" in the mainstream look to for recipe's of "cool". It's like they look up under the hip hop section; hand gerstures, clothes, sunglasses, chains...and under rock look up; baseball caps, bum-like clothes, sneakers, etc, etc, etc,...

Jamiroquai, is pretty much unique in his and his bands musical style, he's go some stuff that's pretty good in my opinion. BUT nothing near you know who. Prince has set the level pretty high...

I miss the days of turning on the radio and/or MTV and seeing something new for the first time that made me go "what the hellzy-wellzy is THIS?!", let alone something like that actually becoming big.

Remember when Beck first came out with "Loser"? We need something like that again. Someone to come out of nowhere with something funky and bizarre. All these dirty words and backwards baseball caps and funny looking beards just don't cut it...

I love Jamiroquai.Their recent album 'A Funk Odyssey' is my favorite album of 2001.It's one of the few albums I listen to all the way through, without having to skip over tracks.I'm amazed that it hasn't taken off in the U.S.,and I think the band needs better promotion and management. They need to be on MTV and they need to tour in the States, too.

I think their CD still has a chance, though. The album has four strong singles that could still become huge hits...

***"Love Foolosophy"---My favorite track!! This is the type of intoxicating jam that could do ALOT of damage in the clubs! I went nuts when I first heard this song!

***"Corner Of The Earth"---Yeah,this ballad sounds ALOT like 70s' era Stevie Wonder, but it is stunning! "This Corner of the Earth is like me in many ways..."

***"Feels Good"---Another potential club smash! Kinda repetitive, but the groove is infectious.Leader Jay Kay says that he wants to do a video for this song, that features the guys traveling in a spaceship.Should be interesting.

***"Picture Of My Life"---This ballad is a hit single BEGGING to be released. The lush orchestration and heartfelt lyrics make this an incredible song.

With some really great videos and radio airplay (not to mention a more agressive management team),there is no reason why the 'Funk Odyssey' CD can't take off in America.

Yeah St. Etienne and Beck are great. I don't like Jamiroquai although I loved the "Emergency On Planet Earth" album because their music is always the same and that bores me.I think they are way overrated here in Europe.
Still though "Too Young To Die" remains one of the best songs of the '90s

i agree with u completely. "Little L" happens to be my favorite song off of the cd, but I love the ones you listed as well, esp "Picture of My Life."

i just finished watching the video for "deeper underground." its good. never saw it until i dl'd it though. someone said our music is homogenized. i disagree, i think that for some reason all the musical power is in the hands of 12-18 years old girls. how in the hell did that happen? and if its always been that way, i want a do over!

2funke, they've actually been touring in austrailia and europe. i'm hoping that they hit the usa too.

it amazes the energy and time people waste entering and posting on topics on those that 'suck'. to me, thats idiotic, but oh well.

jamiroquai? come on, really!
it always depresses me that shallow pop and disco acts are always mentioned on this site. it confirms my suspicions that people who listen to prince are also into formulaic music that doesn't even compare

they got some Good Funk & Dance Cuts & when i saw their video that's what turned me on 2 them. but at the same time they haven't had any Promotional Marketing since that video which was voted on MTV as a Most Original Video of the year back then but if it's NOT Promoted then it won't do well sale wise... speak 2 Epic Records about that...

jamiroquai is to Stevie Wonder what
Lenny Kravitz is to Jimi Hendrix.

Contrary to some of opinions of my fellow orgers, I think Jamiroquai is a very good band. I don't think that they are simply a "disco" band. Anyone who's heard the band's first two albums knows that's not entirely true. They have done a lot of neo-disco stuff in successive LPs, but their music is very listenable and enjoyable.

Jay Kay is no Stevie, even though he may think he is . . . but who the heck can be Stevie? Considering their contemporaries, they grade ahead of the curve.

Do I sense a bit of music snobbery? hmm

We can like a wide range of music, from Miles Davis to Devin The Dude. What crime is there in liking a breadth of music? Lighten up, fair-moan.

Jamiroquai is cool but they've gotten into a bit of a rut. If I remember right, they had big hopes for 'A Funk Odyssey' over here but unfortunately it was released on Sept. 11. Now they have the stigma of being a "One Hit Wonder" over here. That's hard to shake.

Well, hopefully their next album can beat the odds and bring them back to superstar glory. I don't care what anyone says, they're one of the best bands out there today. They definitely got the groove.

I like their stuff. It doesn't catch on here though because it's not innovative and they aren't "cool". Jamiroquai is like the neo-soul folks. It's nice to hear the old sounds from time to time but the kids aren't gonna dig it because it sounds like their parents' music.

agreed.

jamiroquai is even better LIVE. if they ever tour stateside, i would tell people who DO like them to RUN for tickets. the band will not disappoint. the energy level of their shows is amazing. i'm an old school black chick who loves her funk, and those boys kept me UP and outta my seat for two hours non-stop. danced till my feet hurt and i was funky from sweat. great great show. if i could invent a funk-o-meter with a scale of 1-10, those lil' boys would hit a straight up 8.5 for live performance. even if they don't compare to legends of old like Stevie and P., at least the young-ins do try to give you your money's worth
for those 2 hours. and a tip for the girls who go to the show; don't be silly like i was and wear heels trying to be cute- you will need comfy shoes with good traction to make it easier to shake your groove thang!
