P has always gave a shout out out 2 indie artists and if u would have been 2 the Xenaphobia celabrations he promoted some of the great live acts that we're not major players in the industry. P is wondering y these acts r not being signed or groomed. He's pointing the finger and blame at the Record Industry.Get ya facts str8!if i had "been to the xenophobia celebration"...too funny... i WAS at the xenophobia celebration...and, uh, norah jones and musiq are hardly indie artists, lol. yeah, the blues performers were great and rachelle is my girl but what i'm talking about is...well, you know what i'm talkin' about. i'm talking about the hundreds of great indie bands that are just bubbling below the surface of the scene and just need that big break. prince could give them that instead of telling OTHERS to give them that break. i love the guy but, really, prince only wants to sign and work with bands that will mimic him and his style. remember those gsc and chaka khan cds?

The thing is, what might work for you might not work for some people and vice versa.
I think Prince needs to focus on his own thing(live instrumentation) and thats that. Nothing last but the quality, it may take a long or a short run to figure out the live instrumentation is the best thing to do, it doesn't matter. Live music will neva die!

Just throwing in a slightly on-topic 2 cents comment, there was a theory during the one-hit-wonder phenomenon surrounding the alternative wave of the early 90's that the reason there was such a proliferation of one-hit acts was possibly due to the fact that many bands were such lousy live performers.

Sure, we can site specific examples But MAYBE he's feeling like he wants to jump in & try to reverse the trend of getting further & further away from live instrumentation. Let's say live instruments are being used 75% less in the studio today than 20 years ago (I have no idea, I'm just throwing out a #) - what's to stop that trend from bleeding over to the stage more & more over time? What if 75% of performers used pre-recorded tapes at all times? Just a thought then I'd say that if he feels some responsibility for moving music away from live instrumentation (which he absolutely played a big part of), and wants to go some way toward rectifying that, then sure. but if not, then he's a hypocrite. he built his career on making music with computers.
