I'm kinda with Blaque, but I have to admit, I wondered why the hell he dropped the natural (which worked for him) and went with the perm. But still, while Lenny's made a good array of songs, it's impossible to ignore the Prince influence, just as it is impossible to ignore the many obvious influences in Prince's music. Lenny's music isn't transcendant, much of it is disappointing, but it's good enough. He tries and succeeds a lot of the time. That's good enough for me.

I hear ya. Some fans in another thread on this site were talking about one of Lenny's recent videos and how it was so reminiscent of a scene in Purple Rain. The one where came off-stage, stormed down the hallway, and plopped down into his seat in front of his mirror in his dressing room. I didn't think anything of all the claims .... till I actually saw the video. It's more like a parody than simply being reminiscent of it. lol

Haven't seen the vid, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I will always like Lenny because of the love he showed his mama.

Oh my god! He is fine as Hell!

This hairstyle really becomes him.

I missed Kimmel's performance ... too sleepy.

But I do have the album and I really like it. I love the intensity and cacophony of Lenny's music. My favs are I Don't Want to be a Star, Minister of Rock and Roll, Other Side, Where Are We Runnin', and What Did I do with my Life. dancing jig

Honestly I don't dislike any of the songs.

So sad that his album has fallen off the charts.

Go buy it you guys!

Oh, also when Lenny had the flowing, swingin' (well, tryin' to swing) perm .. it was too much of a contrast between soft and hard.

I mean he's hella masculine, which I love. He's got the muscles, the tough guy presence and high-octane sound. But then he had the soft, blown dry hair with curls? One of these things didn't belong.

I'm all for challenging steretypes, but that was just too ... incongruent.

Oh my God! he's on the teen choice awards now. turn to fox!!!

Oh my God. That was better than an orgasm.
I need to become a Lenny groupie.

Hey, Usher and some others gave him a standing ovation!!!

Anyway ... weird not seeing him shake something ... his dreads, curls, something. I guess the short cut's gonna take some getting used to after all.

When Jimmy asked him about playing every instrument on his lastest CD - he mentioned that Stevie Wonder, PRINCE and even Paul McCartney (on his first album) have done the same. It's nice that he doesn't act like it's novel or exclusive, IMO.

Lenny's hair does look great and he is as hot as ever. biggrin

Uh, I don't see what the issue is with Lenny and the man's hair. Although I can relate with what Lenny's been getting, because I get the same shit. I've wore my hair long since I was a little kid. I've been compared to every black male artists who has or has had hair. Hendrix to Snoop Dog, and it's irritating as hell. Sure, I'm used to it now, but..it still gets under my skin when I see other people knocking another brother over some petty shit like someone's hair. Prince doesn't own ANY hairstyle. I seriously doubt Lenny changed his hair because of people comparing him to Prince. The brother probably just wanted a change. That is his God given right, isn't it? What I find interesting is that when Lenny was wearing dreads, no one was saying he was trying to be like Bob Marley. Why not? Marley was a musical legend.

I'm with you 100%. Prince doesn't own the permed look. It comes from people that he looked up to and in influenced him. As for Lenny's permed hair....I LOVED it! I think that is the best that Lenny EVER looked. I would KILL for hair like that. If Prince influenced that hairstyle, then who the hell cares? Prince was influenced by James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, and Little Richard. I hate to see that Lenny cut it off. He looks too "normal" now. He looks like he could just blend into the rest of the crowd and go unnoticed.

As for your own hair, Blackguitaristz, fuck anybody else that doesn't like it. Your hair is part of your individuality. I am a white male and I have had every hairstyle in the book from finger waves, curly perms, braids, dreads, freeze curls, spikes, to bobs and other straight hairstyles. I've dyed my hair every color in the book from jet blue black to platinum blonde. If I liked a black hair style, I didn't let that stop me. If I saw a bob on a woman that looked real good but could also pass on a man, a didn't let that stop me. I've gotten a lot of complements on my hair and a lot of criticisms also.

I've done all these things with my real hair and it has taken it's toll over the years. I developed an allergy to hair dye and burned my scalp four times since 1994. I would wait a few years and dye it again thinking I was safe and would burn it again. Now the gray wants to start coming in and I can't dye it anymore. I starting to get complements now on my "highlights". I'm thinking..."Hell, you just don't know". When the gray starts to take over, then I will cut it all off and leave just enough to weave in some hair. When that day comes, look out world....you ain't seen nothing yet.

Don't let anyone get you down about your hair, that's what makes you an individual and sets you apart from the rest of the world.

Hey, I don't call myself "Vain" Andy for nothing.
Andy is a four letter word.
