I was thinking the same thing...and she was the only female...where was Salt n Pepa? I do know Salt is doing spiritual stuff now but I'm sure she would have gotten together for that. Sexism maybe....Maybe hip hop doesn't think women had a part in its history...Maybe they should have gotten the women from the Wrecks n effect video...to shake their rumps one mo gan..... Yea, I guess they think women were significant enough for a mention but not enough to get more than 20 seconds on the mic Lyte was the shit man, she deserved a medley too - give the girl a minute & a half at least! She barely got started that was cute the way she was sitting in the audience then got on stage and kicked a two second verse of "Paper thin".....yeah I feel ya industry politics has always done Female Rapper's shitty.....now in order to get put on u have to be damn near naked, spittin some wack ass ghost written bullshit....I miss the days of Salt N'Pepa,Queen Latifah,MC Lyte & Yo-Yo I am not African. Everybody's got their something. I am with boriquateddy and Rhondab, for the most part. b-teddy listed most of my faves at the moment, and I'd also list MF Doom.
By the way, Rhondab is exactly right. LL was the prototype solo MC. For a while, he was comin' hard with his lyrics. A lot of these cats couldn't be where they are today without LL, who was one of the first hip-hop acts to sell consistently. He proved a non-gimmicky solo MC could sell well. Now he's a pop artist, but that's all right. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
