Old School - Betty Wright (Clean Up Woman)

Last in today's trilogy of Old School TK artists.

But I don't want to talk about the vocalist Betty Wright.
This is about the guitar player, Willie "Little Beaver" Hale.
You hear his guitar on quite a few TK tracks. This one probably being the most famous.

The thing that always got me about this record, outside of the fact that it's just a great R&B tune that Betty Wright sung the hell out of, was Little Beaver's guitar parts.

If you listen closely the track consists of just bass, drums, horns in the bridge and Mr Beaver's THREE distinct interlocking guitar parts. That's it...that's enough.

The original LPs:

Little Beaver cuts:
Party Down Pts 1&2
I Can Dig It Baby
(featuring Jaco Pastorius)
I Really Love You
Joey

Because of Betty Wright, he's another musician used on Josh Stone's "Soul Sessions"

Wow? I was just thinking: "Quit already with these threads. I've got stuff to do!" biggrin

This is one of those grown folks songs I remember hearing around the house. You know, songs that women could really relate to.

Never heard of Little Beaver. Another unsung hero? That reminds me.... I've got to see "Standing in the Shadows of Motown." smile

Yeah. Little Beaver was pretty much a session player even though he had some solo stuff out.

"Standing in the Shadows of Motown" is really good.
It's about time folks knew who these cats were/are.

Once again, another great song. Another favorite of mine is "Tonight Is The Night". Didn't Betty also do "I'll Be The Other Woman"? I think so but I'm not sure. Another one I get confused with Betty is "Woman To Woman"....was that Shirley Brown?

Shirley Brown did Woman To Woman.
Betty did I'll Be The Other Woman.

Another hot Betty Wright tune is Baby Sitter

She had a truck load of you-know-what
And all of it in place

Babysitter is a good one. That nursery rhyme intro cracks me up.
