"Black Velveteen" - Lenny kravitz

Isnt that song a classic? Damn i wish i still had the video.

That song gives me chills, the vox is on point and the effects cant be beat.

That album was full O classics...especially "Super Soul Fighter" headbang and " eye Belong 2 U" nod

Great tune! thumbs up!
I was really impressed with Lenny's use of different sounds on this one.
My wife and I have also had some interesting discussions about the lyrics.
I initially felt the song was about a loose, fun-filled woman who knows her way around the world. My wife thought it was about a prostitute. What do y'all think?

yeah right. as if lenny's listened to NIN. it's just a similar sounding 16th note rhythm played on a keyboard. big deal. NIN did not invent that, silly monkey!

I know it even sounds close 2 "I Just Cant Get Enough" by Depeche Mode, that doesnt mean its a copy or a rip off, its a average New Wave pattern that tons of times i have heard

I agree! I love the 5 album, but this is the only song on the project that I can't stand. I was actually disappointed that this song was included on Lenny's Greatest Hits album when there were so many songs on 5 that were better. "Thinking Of You" (which was also released as a single and video), "Live" and "Supersoulfighter" come immediately to mind.

i like AMG's analysis of it "Like any veteran in the late '90s, he dabbled in electronica, adding a few trip-hop loops and analog synths to his bedrock rock n' soul. It's enough to make 5 sound relatively fresh, at least compared to the retro dead-end of Circus, yet it sounds like Kravitz read about the idea of electronica without actually listening to any music."

correct, but it's still pretty good.
