Paul Weller mentions Prince/Mavis Staples In the latest edition of Uncut there is a feature "Paul Weller's Top Ten Soul Singers". Mavis Staples is at No 9. He says ... " But even later on in the '90's I loved that amazing collaboration she did with Prince on a track called 'The Undertaker'. That track really brought home to me her sheer power and phrasing."
Being a follower of Paul Weller for 25 years I was quite surprised at this quote. He has mentioned his favourite soul and funk artists many times over the years but never any mention of Prince. And quite an obscure track too, in general terms. | |

I could never get into his music much. All my freaky colleagues at Virgin were followers though.
I mean, I like him when I see him on Jools, but that is about it. Sophisticated pop for older people? | |
