Broadway musical to be made of Pink Floyd's "The Wall"

The Wall set for Broadway
11:59 AEST Fri Aug 6 2004

PAAIN - Pink Floyd's seminal rock album The Wall is being turned into a Broadway musical.

Since its release in 1979, The Wall has become one of the best-selling records of all time shifting more than 23 million copies.

Marimba Films and former Sony Music boss Thomas Mottle have bought the rights to develop the musical from Roger Waters, who co-founded Pink Floyd.

Bassist Waters, who wrote most of the songs on the album, will write the show book and arrange and orchestrate the music for the New York stage production.

The Wall, the third best-selling album of all time, featured hits like Another Brick in the Wall, Comfortably Numb and Hey You.

Its storyline, conceived by Waters, portrays the fictional life of anti-hero, Pink, who is beaten down by society throughout his life and withdraws into a fantasy world.

hmm This could be potentially brilliant or disasterous. We all saw "Live in Berlin 1990".

i saw this on the news earlier...my first thought was who in the hell is going to pay broadway kind of money to see this? i'm sure it could be a great idea...i mean, the movie was incredible. how will it translate to broadway, though? with actors...i dunno, it doesn't seem to cool to me.

Read in the paper today that Roger Waters will write the script and orchestrate all the music. Good news. No loss of creative control. nod

But it also says that the musical will contain other Floyd songs not on 'The Wall' and new compositions.

confused

if ol' Rog wanted to, he could really screw up this one.

I heard about this a long time ago. In fact, I thought it was already playing. confuse Anyway, I saw a show on British tv about it about a year ago, so I just assumed it was already going on.
