The O'Jays 'Together We Are One' CD---how does this "lost album" sound? The other day,I went to the record store and bought several CDs by the O'Jays. They are one of my favorite groups and I'm currently in the process of collecting all of their old albums.I just picked up the following CDs (I already have 'Ship Ahoy' and 'So Full Of Love' and I plan to get the remastered 'Backstabbers' next)...
"Survival" (1975) "Family Reunion" (1975) "Message In The Music" (1976) But I came across a CD that I didn't even know about. It's titled 'Together We Are One' and the CD cover contains a sticker advertising it as "the lost O'Jays album".It was released on April 6 of this year and I did a little research on this project.Apparently,it's a collection of old outtakes (recorded from 1974-1999) that never made it onto their albums. The songs have been "remixed" to sound modern, but the good thing is,the project was remixed by the Philly masters themselves (Gamble and Huff,Dexter Wansel,Bunny Sigler, etc). So,it's nice to see that they didn't hire a bunch of "trendy" producers to update and ultimately ruin these vault tracks.I didn't buy the CD yet,but I'm definitely gonna go back and pick it up.Here's the tracklist... All Eyes On Africa Together We Are One Your Place Or Mine I Know What You're Doing (But I'm Too Scared To Do Something About It) Ruler Of The Universe Pretty Is As Pretty Does (Just Too Pretty For Words) Promises When Sunny Gets Blue Just Don't Seem To Be My Day Packin' My Bags (Movin' On) Hurry Home This Could Be The Last Time If anyone has this CD,give me your thoughts. Is it a worthy collection to have? Besides the CDs that I mentioned above, are there any other essential O'Jays albums that I should be looking for? ... [This message was edited Fri Aug 6 4:33:28 2004 by DavidEye] | |
