Common: Electric Circus This album did not have an impact on me when I first heard it.
But just the other day I decided to put it in my cd player and now I can't stop listening to the album. This is a classic. It's different, it's experiemental, it's orignal, and it's still hip hop! Does anybody else dig this album too? What are your thoughts on it?

Man this album is banging! No matter what Okaypimpin has to say!
Unfortunately, Common is more worried about his street cred, than expanding the boundaries of Hip-Hop. He been quoted as saying his next album will be on a more street/blue collar level.

This one's like newspaper print.
First, you just see the big picture and read what's there without a secondary inspirational thought. But when you inspect closer.... The pattern of miniscule dots which make the letters which make the words which make the sentences which make the paragraphs which tell the story become ever more visable. He has a lovely righteous beard, too. Oh, and I once read somewhere somewhen somehow sometime that he gave Prince a private playback of the recording and the wee man told him it sounds like what Miles Davis would be doing just now if his body rotting away in a box under the ground. But don't worry, the electricity in your body gets imprinted with your essence and moves onto another metaphysical dimention of no shape or what you comprehend as time.

Me either. I walked away from it feeling like Common obviously did when he recorded it...

It is a great effort, with great moments, but mostly uneven.
But "Heaven Somewhere" is his artistic masterpiece. Still, no album of Common's has topped Resurrection. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
Props will be withheld until the showing and proving has commenced. -- Aaron McGruder

MY fave Common album. No boundaries. I love the way he flips his verses to actually integrate with the music. I know a lot of cats didnt feel this when it was released. I guess people dont like to be challenged with respect to their musical tastes. Too bad, really. You sleep on a lot of good shit that way.

It's a very brave album. I will always appreciate it for this song and these lyrics:
Common "Between Me, You & Liberation" From the album Electric Circus He spoke with his eyes, tear-filled A lump in his throat, his fear built My whole life it was in steel This ain't the way that men feel A feeling, he said he wish he could kill A feeling, not even time could heal This is how real life's supposed to be? For it to happen to someone close to me? So far we'd come, for him to tell me As he did, insecurity held me I felt like he failed me To the spirit, yelled help me I'd known him for like what seemed forever About going pro we dreamed together Never knew it would turn out like this For so long he tried to fight this Now there was no way for him to ignore it His parents found out and hated him for it How could I judge him? Had to accept him if I truly loved him No longer he said had he hated himself Through sexuality he liberated himself Considering his homophobic lyrical content in the past, this is a refreshing breath of fresh air for him.

Yep, the album certainly has its beautiful moments "London, i've adopted a name that has no pronounciation.... is that cool with you?"
"YEAH!!!" "Yeah, well then fuck those other fools!"
