LOS ANGELES- Soul veteran Ronald Isley, the lead singer with the Isley Brothers, has suffered a minor stroke, but hopes to resume performing as soon as possible, a spokeswoman for his record label said on Thursday.

Isley, 63, felt unwell while walking along a street in London last Friday, checked into a local hospital for a few days, and has since returned to his home in St. Louis, Mo., said the spokeswoman at Def Soul Classics.

She said his speech did not appear to be affected, and he had assured the label that he would be fine and wanted to get back on the road quickly.

Ronald Isley founded the Isley Brothers with older siblings Rudolph and O'Kelly in the 1950s, and the group made it big in the ensuing decades with such soul classics as "Twist and Shout" and "This Old Heart of Mine."

The band's most recent album, "Body Kiss," topped the U.S. pop charts last year, and Ronald Isley subsequently collaborated with composer Burt Bacharach on an album featuring reworked versions of Bacharach-David nuggets like "Alfie" and "Close to You."

correct me if i'm wrong, but according to the statment made by the orger who started this thread, they said that ole ron was walking down the street with his wife when he got sick and that ex-wife angela winbush went to be by his side. my question is this....after angela winbush, when did he get married? and to who? i just heard he was dating one of those chicks from j.s., but that was it.

Aside from that, i hope ole' boy gets better soon. He sure knows how to put on a good and exciting show. He never disappoints.

Thanks for the the link ZsaZsaZsu. This keeps getting weirder by the minute. It's good to see a second report that he was even in London in the first place. I like to get a second more reliable source before believing whatever I read. Remember when Prince came to Jackson back in 1997 and The Clarion Ledger stated that this was the first time Prince returned to Jackson since 1976 when he was here with Rick James. As we all know Prince's first album didn't come out until 1978. I was in line at the coliseum waiting to buy tickets when a local television station was interviewing some fans waiting to buy tickets and one fan made this statement. It's obvious the newspaper just took their word without checking out to see if it was true.

I can't understand Ronald Isley would be in London when he is in the middle of a tour here in the states. ZsaZsaZsu, are you going to the concert tonight? I have to work this evening but several of my co-workers are going. Like I said earlier, I saw the Isley Brothers this past February at the Silver Star casino so I'm not going to this concert. Plus I'm not about to sit through those local blues acts and Keith Sweat just to see Isley Brothers. As for Klymaxx, I'm wondering if it's the original Klymaxx with Bernadette Cooper. I saw that special on VH1 where one of the ex-members is taking a new band on the road, performing the old songs, and using the name Klymaxx to sell tickets. Bernadette and the other band members are suing the hell out her. Klymaxx with Bernadette is like The Time without Morris Day.

Anyway, tonight should be VERY interesting. Like I said, I will be at work tonight but my co-workers are going and they going to tell me "if they see a ghost" .

I truly don't know what the hell to think now. I called my co-worker at her house and told her about this third link. She is getting ready for the concert which starts in about an hour and she doesn't know what to think either.

From this link, it kind of gives you the impression that he is somewhere recovering. The strange thing is, while ago the radio just played a promo with his voice saying "Hi, this is Ronald Isley. Hope to see you at the concert tonight. Keep listening to Magic 100.9". Of course that could have been recorded weeks ago. There has been no word of a replacement band or cancellation of the concert. I wonder if the band will play without him but who would sing and who would want to see a replacement singer? (By the way, the commercial just came on again right now as I type)

Anyway, we will all know something after this concert tonight.
