Classic Songs That Need To Be Retired...

They may have stood the test of time for 10, 20, even 50 years....But some songs have been overplayed and overused to such a sickening extent, that they should be pulled from all airwaves, movies, karaoke bars, and family get-togethers, and locked in a vault permanently.

My nomination: Earth, Wind, and Fire's "September."

I don't know about "retired" but I'd settle for them being placed in the attic for a while razz

There are so many....some great...some not-so-great but sick to death of hearing!

"Stairway to Heaven" Led Zeppelin
"Old Time Rock & Roll" Bob Segar
"My Girl" Temptations
"Respect" Aretha Franklin
"Stop In The Name of Love" Diana Ross & Suprmemes

...and the ultimate most annoying song ever that is also to me the downfall of any karaoke party when 'that one drunk guy' just has to sing the entire 10 minute song and chances are will even cry at his own performance.....

AMERICAN PIE-Don McClean

URRRRRGHHHHH!

eek
Every minute of last night is on my face today....

any song that causes crowds of dunk people (or people who should be drunk) to burst out sining in a chorus of assholery:

my unholy trinity:

American Pie (Don McLean)
Piano Man (Billie Joel)
Brown Eyed Girl (Van Morrison)

all of these songs are tolerable when heard alone. but the vomitrocious way in which they elicit any group of more than 2 people to start singing is cause for them to be striken from the history of rock & roll.

oh, wait, i forgot the fourth nomination to be added..... make it a quadrilogy:

Margueritaville (Jimmy Buffet) barf
"I don't need your forgiveness, cos I've been saved by Jesus, so fuck you."

You're excused.

Speaking of Stairway To Heaven, listen to Taurus from the 1st Spirit album and tell me they didn't rip that intro.

But Zep wouldn't steal now would they? whistling

smells like teen spirit - nirvana

way tto overapreciate it, every poll you see on tv trying to put together the top10 or top100 best songs of all time always ends with that one. why? it's good but come on it's not the best song ever. i just don't understand some people think it is.

I personally like al yankovics take on it a lot better.

this song needs to go nighty night
It was not in vain...it was in Minneapolis!

it has more to do with the influence of it and Nirvana than anything else, really. it's okay, and it was fairly popular at the time, but it gets more praise in retrospect than it did at the time.

"Always And Forever" by Heatwave
"Very Special" by Debra Laws
"Sexual Healing" by Marvin Gaye
"Brick House" by The Commodores
"Between The Sheets" by The Isley Bros.
"Let's Stay Together" by Al Green

Don't get me wrong,I like all of those songs and I realize that they are R&B classics. But damn,do we have to hear them EVERYDAY on those classic soul radio stations?! Why not play other songs by these artists that haven't already been played to death?
