Listening to the haunting melody of Great Expectations by Miles Davis on Big Fun.
To me it sounds perfectly normal, but I could imagine it sounding spooky to some.

Especially the sudden accent at the end of the phrase.

venus de milo is scary in that hauntingly beautiful sort of way..hard to describe but i get chills when i hear it.

There are a few Hendrix things, depending on your state of mind, that could be considered "spooky".

Foxey Lady intro
EXP
And the gods made love
1983
Moon Turn The Tides

You got it. Another Jacksons one that spooked the eek outta me when I was little was "That's What You Get For Being Polite." I was not trying to hear that song!

Speaking of the Jacksons, their album covers always scared the hell out of me, like the "Destiny" album. And those damn glowing socks on Michael for "Off the Wall" like he has radioactive ankles. I mean, what the hell was that about? And their obsession with peacocks.

Don't even talk about their video for "Can You Feel It." boxed

Another spooky song for me, even today -- "Death is a Star" by the Clash.

"Eli's Coming":

"Eli's comin', hide your heart, girl
Eli's comin', hide your heart, girl
Girl, Eli's a-comin', you better hide
Girl, Eli's a-comin', you better hide
Girl, Eli's a-comin', you better hide
Girl, Eli's comin', hide your heart, girl (hide it)
You better, better hide your heart
Eli's comin', better walk
Walk but you'll never get away"

I know what the song is about, but it's sounds scarey the way Three Dog Night did it. I'd like to hear Laura Nyro's original version.

And then there's their version of Randy Newman's "Mama Told Me (Not To Come)." The chorus isn't spooky, but these verses sorta tend to be:

"Open up the window, let some air into this room
I think I'm almost chokin' from the smell of stale perfume
And that cigarette you're smokin' 'bout scare me half to death
Open up the window, sucker, let me catch my breath...

The radio is blastin', someone's knockin' at the door
I'm lookin' at my girlfriend - she's passed out on the floor
I seen so many things I ain't never seen before
Don't know what it is - I don't wanna see no more"

And the piano intro to the O'Jay's "Backstabbers" is sorta dramatic. It sounds like Count Dracula should be making an entrance into a room or something. biggrin
