I'm waiting for a clueless person to list a mid-eighties track and say it's disco.

I'll go in the opposite direction and list the two disco songs I absolutely cannot stand:

Ring My Bell - Anita Ward
I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor

All other disco I can tolerate, but those two are like scratching nails on a blackboard to me.

someone already did it with "let it whip by the dazz band" lol

Just a late-80's uptempo track, IMHO. It really sounds anemic if you compare it to authentic disco.

I couldn't name just 10, but it's ironic because most disco is watered down funk to me. And half of my list would include Chic songs.

Y'all know how much I love disco music,so it's nearly impossible for me to pick just 10 songs.Maybe we should do our Top 100 Disco Song list? LOL.But I'm gonna play by the rules and pick just ten songs...

"Bad Girls" by Donna Summer (1979) ---there are many, many Donna Summer songs that I could have chosen. She was the undisputed Queen Of Disco, and her best singles basically defined this entire era."Bad Girls" is my favorite song by her,and it's my all-time favorite disco song, period. This song is funkier than almost anything else she's ever done, and it's more R&B than, say,"Last Dance" or "MacArthur Park".It's filled with attitude,an outrageously catchy hook ("toot toot..hey...beep beep"),and some cool rhythm guitar throughout. The best part is the ending, when Donna herself takes on the roll of a "bad girl",asking "Hey Mister, have you got a dime?".This was disco's finest moment.

"Staying Alive" by The Bee Gees (1977) ---If your lists don't have at least one song from 'Saturday Night Fever',I have nothing to say to you...lol..."Staying Alive" is one of the most powerfully hypnotic and effective disco songs ever, and it's arguably the Bee Gees' finest moment.

"Native New Yorker" by Odyssey (1978) ---Many people who despise disco always complain that the songs are shallow, with no meaningful message. This song proves otherwise.

"I Want Your Love" by Chic (1978) ---Since no list would be complete without at least one Chic song,I was gonna choose "Le Freak" or "Good Times".But I consider "I Want Your Love" to be my favorite Chic song.As with most Chic jams,it boasts a heavenly arrangement and the whole thing is just gorgeous and totally mesmerizing.

"Shadow Dancing" by Andy Gibb (1978)---This was the first 45 single I bought,in the summer of 1978.The chorus is addictive, and you can't get it out of your head.A few nights ago,I was in Chicago, driving around downtown with Stymie. She was playing her "old school" CD,and when this song came on,I went crazy...lol...it's one of the Bee Gees' finest productions, and it's the highlight of Andy Gibb's career.

"Love Hangover" by Diana Ross (1976) ---By the mid-70s,disco was in full swing and even Diana Ross (unwillingly) jumped on the bandwagon. This song is sultry, seductive and sexier than anything she had done previously. It's impossible to hear this track and not get "lost" in it.

"Keep It Comin' Love" by KC and The Sunshine Band (1977) ---Alright,let's all sing it together now...."keep it comin' love, keep it comin' love....don't stop it now, don't stop it no,don't stop it now, don't stop"....there are many top-notch KC and the Sunshine Band songs, but nothing is as catchy and inviting as this jam.

"Vertigo/Relight My Fire" by Dan Hartman (1979) ---Even though his 1978 song "Instant Replay" was a bigger hit,I prefer "Vertigo/Relight My Fire".

"Disco Nights (Rock Freak)" by GQ (1979) ---When GQ arrived on the scene in late 1978 with this mesmerizing number, folks went crazy. They specialize in a light,synth-heavy funk sound, and "Disco Nights' is breezy and infectious. How many of you remember that great summer of 1979,when disco was at it's peak? This song was ALL OVER the radio.

"Livin It Up (Friday Night)" by Bell and James (1979) ---This is,without question, the best "friday-night-and-I just-got-paid" song. These days,it makes me long for the carefree,anything-goes disco days, when going out to nightclubs was a national pastime, lol.

We need to start an entire thread on the 'We Are Family' album, which is one of the most inspired disco albums ever. This is also the best side project that Chic was ever involved in.On another site that I visit,we were discussing the last track on this album---"One More Time"---which is another amazing song.I would argue that this album is even stronger than Chic's own 'Risque' album, which also came out in 1979.

"24 Hrs. A Day" by Barbara Pennington (1977)
"There'll Come A Time,There'll Come A Day" (1975) forgot the name of the group

A little trivia for ya...the song "He's The Greatest Dancer" was slated to appear on Chic's second album, where it was gonna be the lead-off single (this was before "Le Freak" was recorded) but they gave it to Sister Sledge instead.Likewise,Chic's song "I Want Your Love" was originally intended for the Sister Sledge album, but they kept it for themselves instead.
