Love that song, Lady Love, Groovy People, and Let Me Be Good To You... " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

Phew! For a second, I thought you were talking about "See You When I Get There" by Coolio.

Awwww...I love those songs. Lou Rawls doesn't get much props, but where does he fit in the scope of music from the late 70's. He kinda sounds Vegas-y, like songs that you would hear at a show on the strip. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

Me and Lou ain't never been friends
As silly as it sounds, I think Marvin's dislike for him tainted my view of his catalog. I will give him props for "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine"

I will give him props for "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" The brother's definitely got a unique voice in the jazz/blues tradition. Plus he was backed by the Les McCann Trio early on. Give him some props for Dead End Street (1st song I heard him do). The intro rap about "the hawk" alone is worth the price of admission. Some others: Love Is A Hurtin' Thing Stormy Monday I'd Rather Drink Muddy Water Natural Man Street Corner Hustler's Blues What was Marvin's problem with him? tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Marvin's problem with Low Rawls was just,,,,,Marvin being Marvin
You should read David Ritz' book "Divided Soul: The Life Of Marvin Gaye". Ya'll in 4 a pack of brownies and cornbread, that shit is CANDID to the fullest degree it ain't even funny. He's so open, he even eknowledges his "enviousness" 2ward other fellow musicians, the brotha doesn't give a flying fuck about [nada]. READ IT! Anyway, its the similar problem to what Aretha had 4 Natalie Cole. Lou won the grammy in 1977 against Marvin and Marv took it to heart, talking shit "If it weren't 4 god, I would've sent punches right between his eye he would get the grammy awards outta his nippy head everytime he looks in the mirror."
