SONY LOOKING TO RE-SIGN MACY?: Label dropped her after last album went wood. (Jul. 26, 2004) *Sony must have a pair as big as Macy Gray’s afro if one of its labels is actually trying to rehire her following her recent dismissal.
Once Sony understood that her latest CD, “The Trouble With Being Myself,” wasn’t going to sell anywhere near as much as her first album, the media conglomerate sent her packing. But hold the phone…word had it that Sony subsidiary Epic, who plans to release a Gray best-of compilation later this year, is one of several labels trying to woo the 33-year-old for a new record deal. According to World Entertainment News Network, a spokeswoman for Epic says, "Macy Gray is out of contract with us but she is in talks with several companies, including us, about signing a new deal." *** I didn't know that she was dropped?

But I'm still trying to figure out why she would have a Greatest Hits CD coming out?

But I'm still trying to figure out why she would have a Greatest Hits CD coming out? Yeah? How many hits qualifies you for a greatest hits set these days? Not many.

I LOVES me some George Michael, but after hearing his latest it was hit or miss. The jams jammed, but the slow songs were WAY too meloncholy. Don' t get me started on how radio and tv didn't play his lead-off single or how they wouldn't know a good record from an arrest record, but this all goes into why the album flopped. And at least he had a double cd's worth of hits to compile a greatest hits package. Macy had ONE hit!

A record company would be full of total idiots if they dont sign this woman.. all she needs is some guidance/direction with some twisted lyrics and her same platform of insane/creative music and she's got something big.
I think The ID is fucking incredible

I completely agree.Macy deserves a second chance and I don't think we've heard the best from her yet.Sony/Epic is smart to re-sign her.

I hate that these companies are so STUPID they'd drop her b/c her 3rd wouldn't sell as good. DAMN, whatever happened to letting an artist continue to grow?? Macy

Damn Sony, you don't see what a gem you have in your hands...
Macy is awesome, she's one of the best modern soul/funk singers and performers of today, there are not many people with a voice and a charisma like hers. I saw her live on Sunday and she ROCKED.

No, kiddin'!!! I see, another hater around the corner... Her voice obviously devides people into two different camps, you either love it or hate it. Imo her husky voice is awesome for a soul singer... I seriously adore it. [This message was edited Tue Jul 27 10:49:06 2004 by Pbg]

Well I wouldn't consider myself a hater but...
I used to like Macy. I have her first album. But in all honesty she isn't focused enough to take the few singing lessons she needs. She's got a promisong talent but c'mon, Macy could be MUCH better. I almost hate to say it but Fantasia Barrino is a way better singer then Macy, and they're comparable. And yes, one hit does not a greatest hits compilation make.

Macy Sadly, its become a thing of the past. If you don't HIT at least with your second record (many times they don't let you get that far - they're impatient if your debut doesn't change the world), you can kiss it all goodbye. A ton of the all time greats wouldn't be allowed to find their audience and develop had they come from this era. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I like Macy but a greatest hits/best of is just a joke. I understand that most people argue she's only had one hit, but I would consider some of her singles like "Still", "Sweet Baby" and "Do Something" as semi hits however she should have released at least one more album (given one more chance for some hits) before this collection comes out. So greedy.
