'68 comeback special I bought the 3 DVD edition of the '68 Comeback Special and i've been watching this for a couple of days now.
It's an amazing set with a lot of funny outtakes. That Presley is just sex on legs, he looks great all dressed in black leather. I suggest you all get this DVD set!! WHAT IF THERE IS NO TOMORROW? THERE WASN'T ONE TODAY!

noepie, i love you!, i'vee been hooked on this for the last week. Especially the 1 st sit down show. Great to him stringing a few chords together and actually make the guitar sound raw and funky. No man should look THAT good, and i'm a man too!.

I had already seen this show before (of course) but this DVD set is so extensive, it might just be the best music DVD ever released. [This message was edited Tue Jul 27 2:55:50 2004 by noepie] WHAT IF THERE IS NO TOMORROW? THERE WASN'T ONE TODAY!

I don't have it yet, but eventually I will. I have been watching the "Aloha From Hawaii" better... truly, Elvis at his absolute best right there. Watch that one and know why Elvis is the King.

That truly is a comeback after the crappy movie soundtracks of the 60's.
It's Elvis doing what he was great at. And he actually plays guitar. Not like Hendrix, but he actually plays. It's all about the sitdown session. Some of the sketch stuff is weak. I think Prince definitely watched this recently (concert in the round, acoustic, and Prince wore black in LA. At San Jose he looked like Elvis in that white high collar getup. He even does Jailhouse Rock for just a second). It's too bad Elvis couldn't keep that vibe up. As good as Aloha from Hawaii is, I think there's a decline in passion and performance (not to mention that look was what made him something of a joke) He had such a long career, but his great moments were sadly few for such a great performer. Check this song out at:

I guess I can agree with most of your post. I love Aloha.... but I don't know if it was as much a decline in passion and performance, as it was the drugs were starting their affects. As a vocalist myself, it's amazing to just watch him sing... the guy was incredible, a pure, natural singer. His vibrato, his power, I mean the power his voice displayed at the end of each song, try it yourself, it's not easy. His range, it's very rare to see someone sing like this anymore. Prince can do it, but he's in a class by himself. I think the jumpsuits only became a joke after his death and his last year of performances, where it looked like he was ready to bust out of them. It's to bad too, but I think Elvis cameback in '68 and peaked in January of '73. Lovesexy Funkateer
