The album is STUNNING. Now, I'm not a k.d. expert or anything. I just recently got hardcore with her, even though I've always enjoyed her work. The album is very simple. Despite it all being cover songs, it has a unity that makes it stand alone. You don't really think of the originals when you're listening to it, which I love about good cover versions. The songs all tie together nicely because of the sound. It's all arranged for piano, light drums, string bass and acoustic guitar. Very peaceful. She even dabbles a bit back into country which is nice. It has everything I love about her: a little country, a little folk, a little jazz, a little pop and a lot of soul. Her singing is effortless and heartbreaking. "After The Goldrush", "Simple", "Helpless", "Hallelujiah", "Bird On A Wire" and "Love Is Everything" have been in my head non-stop since I bought it. They're perfect. It seems as if she really connects with these songs and she does them justice. I can't say enough good things about it really. It leaves me very sad and thoughtful, but in a positive way. It doesn't make you feel bad. It takes you to a painful place, but then nurtures you there. Excellent.
