sealed cd's?

hey

I was hoping some-one could tell me what exactly a sealed cd is. Is it a cd still in the plastic wreaper (pos still including price tag) it was sold in or are cd's sealed by the store at request. plus: why seal cd's?

Sealed cds are ones still in the plastic wrapper, usually containing the label information on the top-what you see now when browsing in record stores-artist info, etc.

CDs usually come as above as in major releases, independent releases are another story and are often unsealed in some cases due to the costs of making them.

Pricing is left until when it arrives at the stores, all other information is made in the factories they're made in-making the CDs, labels, all that stuff. They come from the same warehouse, but are shipped to various record stores.

I believe CDs are sealed mainly for theft reasons, but also the fact to show it's a new cd, and to help justify the high markup. Now with longboxes being obsolete due to enviromental standards the stickers are needed and now it's even harder to open them.

Be careful though-shrinkwrap can be used to re-shrink older cds so unless you see the label information on the top (when you search through a bin to find a certain cd) assume it's used and be careful.
