HarleyQuinn said: Remy Shand sounds like Al Green, Marvin Gaye, and various other old soul singers. He lacks originality, and more than that his songs lack the type of hooks that made the material of the original artists so timeless...
So, SOOO true. Add Maxwell and Curtis Mayfield to that list of influences as well. I have heard Remy live. He is a HELL of a keyboardist. He's decent on guitar, but nothing to write home about. He doesn't rely on "tricks"; his show is scaled down and he uses a basic rhodes, a clav and one Roland synth. No sequences or samples at all. Vocals? Stick to the CD, that way you won't be disappointed. The best thing about Remy is his fine ass bi-racial wife! Whew! That's another topic, though. Musically, he's okay but he's got some growing to do. It IS his first CD, but he's got to get his own style first. Tell Remy to go check out Kevin Paige & Robbie Nevelle's old tapes and see if he sees a pattern.

Not bad, i bought the CD and was fairly impressed.
But, in order to b the 'next Prince', u gotta b fonky. Alot of guys can do the falsetto, slow ballad thang, that's not that hard to master, if u got a voice. Maxwell, D'Angelo, El Debarge....they all have that stuff down pat. Now.....in order to impress me, u gotta make me move-make me feel the funk. Prince does that like no other. Prince himself said something like this once referring to U2's winning all the awards that he was also up for. He said 'I can do their songs, but they cannot do Housequake' Oh, how true. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I loved that quote too. I was so pissed he didn't win the best album grammy in 1987. The Joshua Tree was good, but Prince covered that genre with "The Cross" and he also covered just about every other genre (and very well) on the SOTT album. That might have been album of the decade as far as American music is concerned. ______________________________________________
