Who do you consider the BEST new acts of this decade so far??

I have a few

-Nikka Costa (as if u could not tell!)
-Pete Yorn (BRILLIANT! Super friendly too!)
-Coldplay (PARACHUTES was a 1999 UK release but 2000 in US)
-Starsailor (LOVE IS HERE is BRILLIANT!)
-P!NK (Guilty pleasure....I think she'll outlast Britney)
-Alicia Keys
-Norah Jones (If u aint heard yet...u should!)
-Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (gritty, dark, great on drugs)
-Jill Scott (If she keeps doin what she's doin...she could very well become the Aretha of our generation)
-Kasey Chambers (Aussie country/rock singer---AWESOME!)

-----I was going to add The Strokes but I'll wait for the next album to see what I think of em

Some people are like Slinkies...

They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Good question.

It seems to me the '90's overall were pretty hit and miss.

It also seems music commercially was doing ok until about 1991 or '92 maybe '93, then there was this almost total drop off or change in the radio and record industry where they slowly but surly put the veteran adult artists on the backburner and turned the spotlight over to the new kids and yonger artists who seemed less experienced.

It also seems the quality in commercial music dropped when this happened as well as "the teachings" weren't really passed on.

How will the '90's be remembered? Good Question as well.

They say music changes every ten yrs or so give or take.

According to that timeline 2002 or 2003 should see us going in a new direction again. I think we already have finally seen the beginning of it with the return of the live musician artists coming back. But how long will that last before it gets "fake" again?

I hope it can stay basically real as in 'live musicians' from here on out(wishful thinking right?) Technology is cool too, but you gotta be able to do your own thing to really move tha people! It'll prb be a cobination of both as the years go by.

We will see!
Peace!

Oh yeah! To answer your question, for 2000 til now, hmmmm, Jill Scott definitley, several others but most started right before the new century maybe about ten total, both black and white groups or artists who r still working on their sound.

I'll tell ya later when I have more time! heehee!

peace!

are you speaking only of acts who's DEBUT release came out since 2000? Can acts who have released albums in the 90's still qualify if they have yet to 'blow up' so to speak? If so, there can be no doubt about it in my opinion...THE best new act would surely have to be...

MeShell Ndegeocello.

period.

If you've ever seen her perform live you know what I'm talking about.

If you've ever heard 'Free My Heart' or 'Make Me Wanna Holler' or 'Fool of Me' or any of the rest...you know what I'm talking about.

If you've ever read her interviews where she talks of why she makes music and who her musical heroes are (yeah, he is one of them)...you know what I'm talking about.

If you are wise enough to pick up her new cd when it drops in June (It's called "Cookie: Anthropological Mix Tape"...you will know what I'm talking about.

However, if you DON'T know what I'm talking about and you cant wait till June to find out...just check out this amazing site for all you need to know...

http://www.freemyheart.com

Downloads, rare tracks, live stuff, rehearsal stuff, video, concert info, interviews, concert reviews, album reviews, lyrics, photos...you name it it's got it. It's the BEST artist website on the internet for the best artist on the planet...in my opinion.

cuz it's all about the music right?

just the music.
