I'll just skip the obvious Princey soundtracks. Excluding those, my faves are:

-Pretty In Pink (the alterna-music primer for my generation)
-The Butcher Boy (quirky interludes and good songs)
-Trainspotting (honors go to part 1, the 2nd soundtrack was good but not AS good)
-Grosse Pointe Blank
-Natural Born Killers (with the dialogue in the mix, this is an incredibly creative soundtrack)
-Splendor (crap movie, but AWESOME soundtrack)

You stole some of my faves! mad

lol

I love Pretty in Pink's soundtrack, as well as Natural Born Killer's. Love the NIN in that one.

other favorites are.....

Donnie Darko
Almost Famous
West Side Story love
Superfly
The Wall
Purple Rain
Under the Cherry Moon
The Doors
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Love Jones
and
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
thumbs up!

Here are a few that...
a) Haven't been mentioned (I think)
b) Don't necessarily have popular songs as part of the soundtrack but are appealing to me as standalone musical works.

2001: A Space Odyssey
The Godfather
American Grafitti
Vertigo
Goldfinger
Easy Rider
The Pink Panther
Anatomy of a Murder
Woodstock
Blue Velvet
Gladiator
Bird
Play Misty For Me
Round Midnight
Bamboozled

Aside from the obvious Prince choices-

Natural Born Killers-Trent Reznor reshaped what a soundtrack could be. Possibly the best soundtrack ever made.

Lost Highway-Again, great job by Trent.

She's the One-Some of my favorite Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers work was made for this.

PCU-George Clinton's here a few times, along with some other choice cuts, and Steve Vai makes an appearance. Good mix.

Both Wedding Singer discs-Great collection.

Any John Hughes soundtrack.

Any John Williams or Danny Elfman score.

Saturday Night Fever-Guilty pleasure.

Shaft-Isaac is the man.

Rocky Horror Picture Show-Richard O'Brien deserved many, many awards for this-he's still making great music by the way-check out Absolute O'Brien.

The Crow-What a collection. Beautiful companion to an amazing film.

Standing in the Shadows of Motown-The respect due to the almighty Funk Brothers.

O Brother Where Art Thou?-Better than you think if you haven't heard it.

Forrest Gump-Simply a great collection that helps paint a vivid picture.

Remember the Titans-Good collection.

Chicago-Guilty pleasure.

Dazed and Confused-70's rock at its finest.

Back to the Future-Childhood favorite.

Ghostbusters 1 and 2-See above.

and finally (for now):

The Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy-Love it. Music/dialogue from the movie ("Fuck happy!") along with the classic theme. If you haven't seen the movie-check it out and try to find a copy of the soundtrack even though it's out of print.

Passion: Soundtrack for "The Last Temptation of Christ" I don't sense a lot of love on the Org for this record. But to me it is a modern-day "Love Supreme."

see my list.. wink

My bad! I got confused when you used "Passion of Christ."

I don't have the energy to read through this entire thread, and I imagine someone must have mentioned his name already, but I'll throw this in here just in case...

Ennio Morricone is probably the most prolific soundtrack composer is cinematic history, and has written compositions in almost every conceivable musical genre. My personal favourite is the soundtrack to "The Mission"

There's two songs I dig from that SDTK: Jay-Z "Who U Wit" and Jon Forte featuring Pras & The Refugee All-Stars "Move On."

You should hear the "One In A Million" remix with Genuine and the Tisha Cambell/Tenicia Arnold duet. These two make the soundtrack even better.

Oh, yeah! That song is the cut! There's another one on there with E-40 called "Goal Tendin'." West Coast Mob music!

Tisha Campbell can SANG. She needs a record contract. I still sing her stuff from the Martin days (remember the hospital episode? She sung "Lean On Me." I love her voice.
