purple rain, parade, batman,...go without saying i think. further i think these deserve to be mentioned.

* lost highway: everything a soundtrack should be, great artists, a good atmosphere. evrything trent touches indeed does turn to gold.
* Spawn: MM - long hard road out of hell
* Detroit rock city: classic rock and a great MM cover of highway to hell
* Good will hunting: ellioth smith + some great songs like: bakerstreet
* Conquest of paradise: MMMM MMMmM mMMMmmm

If u want music from a certain year, then buy a soundtrack as they date the quickest! Plus u get artists on that labels roster that knowones heard of and they end up quite good.....know what i mean?.....Anyway I love soundtracks, though they r very hard to find as they go out of print very quickly.....

The best st's r the ones where all the tracks r actual songs (and not instrumentals) and they r all exclusive to that st! Example would be the turtles st, where i think all the songs were exclusive to that one movie and no songs were off one of the artists albums (except St Pauls song) or like beverly hills cop 2 with "Shakedown" by bob segar being exclusive to just that soundtrack!

-Pretty In Pink (the alterna-music primer for my generation)
-The Butcher Boy (quirky interludes and good songs)
-Trainspotting (honors go to part 1, the 2nd soundtrack was good but not AS good)
-Grosse Pointe Blank
-Natural Born Killers (with the dialogue in the mix, this is an incredibly creative soundtrack)
-Splendor (crap movie, but AWESOME soundtrack)

Same here. I thought the movie was every bit as good as the book. Middlesex, his follow up, is an even better novel.

like Gooey, i'd have to say Amadeus. also, i'm going to ignore soundtracks which are basically albums for modern artists, because there are far too many - prince, tom waits, elliott smith etc.

Somebody else mentioned Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I would have said that one except I flat out do not like the movie soundtrack. I like the production on the original cast recording for the Off-Broadway show much more. Better instrumentation, more lively, and better production!
