I still can't get over Aaliyah being dead

I can't understand it. It is the craziest thing. I saw her "More Than A Woman" video today and I just started sulking. Why is she gone. R.I.P. Aaliyah.

So beautiful and so angellic.

3 years later and she is still remembered. Forever Aaliyah.

Yep. The anniversary of her death is about a month from now. It's such a shame, and I still can't believe it, either. She was so talented, and I know this gets said about a lot of people after they pass on, but she really would have been huge. She seemed like such a sweet person, too.

Rest in Peace, Aaliyah! pray

'Cause your friends don't dance, and if they don't dance... well, they're no friends of mine.

It makes me sick to my stomach to think about all the things she could have accomplished had she still been alive. The Matrix sequels, the subsequent albums, the tours -- the girl was about to do it really big, just like Selena and she passed away.

Why didn't they get someone else? (Nah, I shouldn't say that.) Why Aaliyah?

"One In A Million" is a classic album.

I really sensed longeivity in her, and substance as well. Such a shame. As for "getting someone else", they could have picked any pop tartlet with no voice. sad In a way, though, it helps us appreciate her work even more.

I would've said, "They should've gotten Britney." But, nah. If that happened, then she would be immortalized as a "bright sunny soul that sung timeless pop ditties." Everyone would get all revisionist on us.

Yeah, that's the irony.

Even her unreleased stuff was great. She probably would have usurped Janet's throne in the female R&B market.

As far as I can see, there was no other chick in the R&B game other than Aaliyah that could hold a candle to Janet as far as sweetness, classiness, dancability, choreography, beats, ballads, stage presence and charisma. I'm a big Janet fan, but yeah, I can say that Aaliyah would've held down the R&B scene SO NICELY and could've been up there with Janet breaking records and racking up achievements.

I hate how Murder Inc. did a bait & switch with Ashanti that I thought was rather tasteless. It's like "hey, here's someone who looks, you know, something like Aaliyah, only she can't sing! Buy her shit!". disbelief

I was watching Midnight Love on BET last night... and saw her Rock the Boat video. My thoughts as I looked into her eyes just before her finalization here on this earth. It's haunting to know the video contains some of her last beautiful moments, the caption of the video and serene enviroment was spiritual, powerful... yet sadness is felt to know the reality after the actual attempt to leave the filmed location.

I gain similar emotion when I see pictures of family, friends or past video of close ones in my life... many who have physically gone from this place, earth. That is why no matter how unbelievable/unreal it may seem when you see these images... it is critical/valuable/essential to know you lived life with full purpose and use time daily as a gift that will soon be gone in our physical sense of existence. rose

Beautifully strange... although I have selected a few Aaliyah CD's to listen to as I tend to the business of my day. heart

I love that video. The soundless laugh at the end, with the sun behind her. And the final shot. Really beautiful, haunting video.

I've been a big fan of Aaliyah's since One in a Million. Her first album was just okay in my book, but once she started working with Timbaland, I liked the direction she took. What I admired most about her was the she seemed really grounded about her talent. She was well aware of the fact that she wasn't a songwriter or composer - she saw herself as an interpreter of other people's words. She didn't have the best voice, but she knew how to use her voice well.

On top of all that, she was stunningly gorgeous, honestly, I think the most beautiful singer to come along in the past twenty years. It really hit me hard when she died, and I felt for her family (particularly when people critiziced the grandiosity of her funeral). Since I've enjoyed her music for so long, it's particularly hard for me to listen to it since she died, and I cannot do so without a sense of sadness. Her videos, especially Rock the Boat, are especially hard to watch.

I was very excited when Aaliyah came out, because it was being called the best R&B album of the year, so to see it lose Best R&B Album to Alicia Keys (apologies to all her fans, but I've only ever liked her...haven't loved her) after her death kinda made that album all the more sad to me. I think it's a great album, but cannot take it off the shelf to enjoy.

She is missed by many -- family, friends and fans alike.

Couldn't agree with you more! Though I love Missy Elliott, she did some tacky things in Aaliyah's memory.

Yeah, a few months before Aaliyah passed away, Janet was on a radio show here in Philly and they asked her to pick one artist she'd love to record with, and the one person that Janet had mentioned was Aaliyah. She said that Aaliyah has always mentioned her as an inspiration, and Janet was so flattered because she loved Aaliyah's music, too and she's such a sweet person. Janet also said that she tried to get Aaliyah on a song with her to possibly use on All For You, but they weren't able to fit it into their schedules.

Um, I'm not a Britney Spears fan in the least, but I think it's terrible to say that "Yeah, she should have died."

Why? Someone died. Better her than Aaliyah, in my opinion, even if it's for selfish reasons.

Now if JanFan4L had said "Take 'em both!!!", you might have a point.
