About Fuckin' Time-New [DECENT] Compilation Albums From Alexander O'Neal & The S.O.S. Band

JUST THE WAY YOU LIKE IT! FROM TABU RECORDS & EMI: Alexander O'Neal And The SOS Band's Greatest Hits
All-New Collections Are The Most Complete S.O.S Band and O’Neal Hits Packages Ever Released, Including Several Previousl

Alexander O'Neal
(Jul. 22, 2004) Tabu Records / EMI Music Catalog Marketing will release two CD collections that will make you wonder what happened to real soul music, the kind that really made you move your feet and sing along.

From the vaults of Clarence Avant’s Tabu Records, renowned for ushering in a new modern soul period in the mid ‘80s, comes S.O.S. Band: Greatest Hits and Alexander O’Neal: Greatest Hits, in stores August 24, 2004.

These releases are the most complete hits collections ever compiled for both artists, featuring many tracks that have been unavailable for years.

Alexander O’Neal was borne of the same Minneapolis scene that gave rise to Prince, Morris Day, et. al.

That same city was also home to friends and former Flyte Time bandmates Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who produced and wrote lyrics for O’Neal. Greatest Hits features “Fake,” “All True Man,” “Criticize,” “Saturday Love” (with Cherelle), and “Never Knew Love Like This Before” (with Cherelle).

O’Neal’s smooth vocals and Jam & Lewis’ invaluable influence make this an indispensable ‘80s soul album.

Purveyors of funky soul, Atlanta’s S.O.S. Band got everybody moving with their #1 slam dunk hit “Take Your Time (Do It Right),” one of the favorites featured on the new Greatest Hits CD. Jam & Lewis came aboard after their third album, and the hits kept on comin’.

Featured in this collection are: “Just Be Good To Me,” “The Finest,” “Tell Me If You Still Care,” “I’m Still Missing Your Love” and other memorable gems.

That's why I'm not getting too excited yet. I'll be pissed if I get edited versions.

Alex's "criticize" to me is not only one of the best "very 80's" tracks, it's one of the best tracks of all time!!! Great voice.....I always think that Jam and Lewis gave up on him in favour of New editioj singer Johnny gill.....they both had simular sort of voices? I heard that Alex was bigger in the UK then in his native America? Was that true?

I'm perfectly happy with the current SOS Greatest set. This one offers nothing for me, though it apparently does for others.

I hope that Alex's C D isn't all of the radio edited versions as well, since I don't have any of his albums and would gladly get this compilation.

They still don't have "For Your Love" on the SOS Band compilation. I need that one because my 45 has a scratch on it. I would love to have the 12 Inch as well, especially the dub version. I remember hearing it back in the day but could not find it. I have the dubs of "Just The Way You Like It" and "Just Be Good To Me" and they are jamming.

FAKE is one of those "Holy Ghost" inducing tunes for me. dancing jig

Can I get some nasty bass
Mmm
It’s gonna be kinda right tonight
Fellas {Yeah}
We gonna talk about a girl who’s fake, huh
Fellas, can I get you to put your hands together for that
Come on

Patty-Patty

Her name was Patty, but now it’s Kay
Girl, you seem to change it every day
Your hair was long, but now it’s short,
You say “I got it cut” but I don’t see no hair upon the floor

Whenever I go out with you
I find out something new

You’re a fake, baby
You can’t conceal it
Know how I know
‘Cause I can feel it

You’re a fake, baby
No rhyme or reason
‘Cause in your mind
It’s lyin’ season

You had brown eyes, but now they’re blue
Those false eyelashes that you’re wearin’ too, well
In bed this mornin’ you called me Clyde
Alex is the name that I go by, oh

If women could be counterfeit
Then you’d be it

You’re a fake, baby
You can’t conceal it
Know how I know
‘Cause I can feel it

You’re a fake, baby
I’ve blown your cover
The jig is up
‘Cause I’ve discovered

You’re a fake, baby
No need to hide it
Can’t change my mind
‘Cause I’ve decided

You’re a fake, baby
And I’m disgusted
The game is through
And girl, you’re busted

Fake

Whenever I go out with you (Whenever I go out with you)
I find out something new

You’re a fake

You always have a good excuse (You always have a good excuse)
But girl, there ain’t no use

You’re a fake, baby
You can’t conceal it
Know how I know
‘Cause I can feel it

You’re a fake, baby
No rhyme or reason
‘Cause in your mind
It’s lyin’ season

You’re a fake, baby
Fake (Ooh-wee, baby, baby)
Fake (Turnin’ ‘round and runnin’ ‘round)
Fake (Dirty nasty lowdown sleazy)
Fake
Fake (Uh)
Fake {On the one} (It’s the word)
Fake (I don’t need no sleazy lowdown)
Fake (I don’t want no lowdown dirty liar, no)
Fake (I can leave you, oh)
Fake (Even if you left me now)
Fake (What did you just do to me)
Fake
Fake
Fake

Yeah.. shit I didn't even see that. That's like my favorite song by him!

OK I'm proaaabably sticking with those comps that came out in the 90s. At this point, they flow like albums unto themselves, like Immaculate Collection.

Even though it's a holiday song, "My Gift to You" should have been included on Alexander O'Neal's. I play it every year from the day after Thanksgiving through Christmas evening, if I don't misplace the tape, which is more times than not.

Hmmm...

I have (and like) the current SOS greatest hits CD, so I won't be buying that one. Not a bad Alexander O'Neal collection at all, but I probably won't be buying that one either, since two of my favorite Alex tracks are not included ("Sunshine" and "Sentimental").

I think his Christmas album was pressed on CD in Japan. You can find it on eBay pretty easily.

I'm not rushing to replace it. Hopefully the tape will pop up again before Dec 24th. neutral
