(Jul. 22, 2004) *Mariah Carey’s Sony song catalog is now in the hands of Universal Music Publishing.

According to “Billboard’s” Melinda Newman, the two parties signed a long-term deal that covers 135 copyrights – including 14 of Carey’s 15 number one hits on the “Billboard Hot 100” – and future material.

After Carey's deal with Sony/ATV expired and her catalog reverted to her, Universal "stepped up in terms of how aggressively we were chasing her," Universal Music Publishing president David Renzer told “Billboard.”

He wouldn’t reveal the price of Carey’s multi-album deal, but called it a "very significant commitment. We made a deal where we're obviously projecting aggressively on her new studio album, but also looking at her back catalog."

Carey's next album for Island Def Jam (part of Universal Music Group) is tentatively scheduled for release later this year. Producers on the project include Kanye West, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Swizz Beatz and Pharrell Williams.

I think that's great. Mariah deserves it, and I really hope she puts out a great record for us.

oh great we've seen how she fucked up her career when she got control of that (from about 1997 on).

Mariah began working on her new album when she kicked off the 2003 Charmbracelet World Tour.

Mariah continued writing and working in Anguilla, Puerto Rico, Los Angeles, and New York.

We just started working on a new record and I think you're gonna see a lot of different stuff from her. We're gonna pull out all the stops and try some different things. You gonna see her return to what she was doing years ago with the "Vision of Love" period.

Mario "Yellow Man" Winans of Bad Boy Entertainment announced live on BBC's Radio 1 earlier this evening that he is producing music with Mariah for her new album.

Mariah is working with yet another producer for her new album. This time around it's Mahogany.

According to Planet Sound, a British teletext channel, 9th Wonder is rumored to be working with Mariah on her new album.

It has alot of R'n'B songs but a good amount of ballards. The album is in many ways is more personal than 'Charmbracelet'. The track 'On The Other Side...' is an interlude, but is such a sad song. Another fan writes: I know it might be a rumor but my cousin works over at Universal Music in Germany. He is a big Mariah fan and his boss told him the new Mariah album is planned to be titled 'On The Other Side' (or something close to that). This is why I belive that comment was not a rumor. Universal are sure this album is going to be like nothing Mariah has ever done before. Her new management are tring to give her a different edge and persuaded her to give the album a mature and different title, not a girly one like 'Rainbow' or 'Daydream'. I know that comment still might be a rumor but it is a coincidence that Universal Music Germany got told the album was going to be called 'On The Other Side'

Mariah has recorded new songs with these artist's: Snoop Dogg, Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, and Nelly. She recorded a song with Kanye West called " Stay The Night".
