70s Rock Classic of the Day: "More Than A Feeling" by Boston (1976)

After much delay,I finally bought the debut album by Boston, featuring the major hit "More Than A Feeling".I have loved this song for years,I have it on several compilation CDs,so I wanted to see what the rest of their album sounded like.Who remembers the first time they heard "More Than A Feeling" in late 1976? I don't really know too much about this band,so if anyone has info, fill me in.Are there any other albums by them that are worth hunting down?

More Than A Feeling headbang

by Boston

(wriiten by Scholtz)

I looked out this morning and the sun was gone
turned on some music to start my day
I lost myself in a familar song
I closed my eyes and I slipped away

(chorus)
It's more than a feeling, when I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
till i see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin' away

So many people have come and gone
their faces fade as the years go by
yet I still recall as I wander on
as clear as the sun in the summer sky

(chorus)
It's more than a feeling, when I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
til I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin away

When I'm tired and thinking cold
I hide in my music, forget the day
and dream of a girl I used to know
I closed my eyes and she slipped away
she slipped away,she slipped away

repeat chorus...

I love the song too and was in the same boat as you about wondering which albums to buy.

I bought the greatest hits album and it was wonderful. There were a whole lot of tracks on there that I heard before but had forgotten about.

I bought the debut album when it was released primarily because I loved the sound of the guitars.

Over time, I found the lyrics to be vapid and trite.
Especially on the 2nd album Don't Look Back.

By Third Stage i'd lost interest in the band and it's bad album covers.

At this point they've become a "guilty pleasure".

Outside of being villianized for their participation in what has been termed '70s "corporate rock", the most interesting storyline on the band to me is founder/guitarist/techno-wizard Tom Scholtz. (Created the Rockman and Power Soak guitar effects) Tom Scholtz

Admission edit:
I still have been know to air-guitar "More Than A Feeling" when it's played on the radio. boxed
(and BOY does it get played on the radio).

I vaguely remember reading that Kurt Cobain was somewhat embarassed of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" because it sounded like a rip of the chorus to this song!
