Courtney Love has a legal guardian and is in an "institution": lawyer Courtney Love has a legal guardian and is in an "institution": lawyer
LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Embattled diva Courtney Love is a "troubled rock star" who now has a legal guardian and has been admitted to an "institution" in the eastern United States, her civil lawyer has said. The revelations came during a civil court case in Los Angeles on Tuesday, held four days after the widow of grunge rocker Kurt Cobain was rushed to a New York hospital just hours after a warrant was issued for her arrest because she failed to turn up in court to face unrelated criminal charges. Civil attorney Robert Ring made the comments as he represented the 40-year-old singer and actress in a lawsuit in Los Angeles in which she is accused of failing to settle her legal bills. He did not elaborate on why 40-year-old Love now had a legal guardian or what kind of institution she had been admitted to. Love's criminal attorney and her publicist could not be reached for comment on the claims that came amid reports that she had been released from a public hospital in New York and admitted to a private clinic. Reports said Love was rushed to hospital in distress on Friday to be treated for a gynaecological problem and that she was released on Monday and transferred to a private institution in the city. "This is unrelated to any type of substance use or abuse," Love's Los Angeles criminal lawyer Michael Rosenstein said in a statement last Friday. "This is not (an) injury related to any altercation, nor is it a suicide attempt. We categorically deny that it has anything to do with drugs," said the attorney. Love is now facing arrest after a Los Angeles judge on Friday ordered her detained after she skipped a court hearing to face charges of assault with a deadly weapon against a 32-year-old woman. Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Dennis Mulcahy issued an arrest warrant for Love, ordered her 55,000-dollar bail forfeited and reset the bond at 150,000 dollars after she failed to show up. She could be arrested at any time, but Los Angeles prosecutors said it was up to New York authorities to decide if and when to arrest the troubled singer. Love, the widow of legendary grunge rocker Kurt Cobain and former frontwoman for the band Hole, has faced a barrage of brushes with the law recently. She was arrested for being under the influence of drugs following a fracas at the home of her boyfriend on October 2, and was then rearrested for alleged drug possession later the same evening. Love is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty in May to being under the influence of drugs. A hearing was set for Thursday on charges that Love was found in possession of the drugs oxycodone and hydrocodone, but prosecutors said the singer was not required to be present for that hearing. Those charges stem from the alleged discovery of unprescribed pills by emergency services when police and ambulance crews rushed to her home following a reported overdose on October 2. Her then 11-year-old child with Cobain was taken from her care at that time. Love also faces assault and reckless endangerment charges in New York after she threw a microphone stand into the audience in a nightclub, injuring a fan. - Associated Press. Just read about this on yahoo. That poor kid (Courtney's daughter), I hope she's got plenty of support, first one parent commits suicide, now this. Courtney's first album was excellent! Its a shame she's suck a fuck-up! Eh... maybe she'll learn someday that she can actually play another type of life role. This one's kinda wearing thin. Change it one more time..

I was just telling a friend of mine that Courtney is the type of person that is down and out now but just wait about 2-3 years, she'll be up for an Oscar, winning a grammy and no one will even question all this stuff happening now. She's that kind of "diva" that bounces back from adversity very well. But she does have mental issues on a serious note. That needs to be looked into.

i actually wouldn't be shocked if that happened. redemption is a very big thing in the US. That being said, i find it unlikely. More probable is that she'll eventually follow in the footsteps of her late husband, whether intentionally or accidentally. Hopefully not. I actually think Courtney has some great talent, but like so many others she's allowed herself to get into the grip of drug addiction, and that is hard to shake.
